Fireline on Overhead

Is anyone using Fireline on an overhead?

I understood after reading an article that no fused GSP was better on an overhead but wanted to know anyone elses opinion.

I am using a Shimano 2000ULS reel with a Shimano Chronarch with 6lb Maxima at the moment & was think of upgrading to braid to get a bit more feel after getting quite a few hits with not many hookups.

Regards
Ritchie

Try John Softly

There is a gent in Brisbane - a real technical Guru on reels, and such matters: John Softly

He has a forum at

http://www.fishingmonthly.com.au/php...wforum.php?f=4

so why don't you ask him?

I would be interested to see what he says too.
cheers

Gary

Hi Richie, mate fireline is ideal for baitcaster, when Im guiding up north I only use baitcasters and all are spooled with fireline. Most guys I know all use fireline on their baitcasters.

I use 8 lb Fireline on a Calcutta 250 and 12 lb on a ABU 6500 (also use 20 lb on that. I had problems at the start with my Calcutta and Fl but after putting it on a lighter Ian Miller baitcaster have had no worries, my advice is just make sure you keep the spool full.

I use 6kg fireline on a calais and it belts lures miles. I rekon it it casts better as it wears a bit. I spent all saturday casting divers for yellas and it is nice line to use.

As Cyclops said it tends to cast better as it wears a bit. True braids are a lot softer initially and I use them instead because of that. Tend to find lures "zing" out alot quicker with less problems on brand new braid than with brand new fizzalizza. Much of a muchness tho.

I found it a horses patoot initialy, as it was laid on a bit lumpy by the level wind, and therefore awkward to thumb. After a few casts it smoothed out and became fine to cast with. Agree with others that it improves with age. I still tend to prefer a quality braid than a fusion line, but would happily fish with either.
