If you got it down here mate, I would say yeh wrasse of sorts.

It does look similar in the head to some of the big tropical wrasse you get up north tho and i got onto some larger sized ones up there a few years ago. Tasted unreal...

hopeing it was caught in the north-----------Tripletail Maori Wrasse. can just imagine a hint of a dark vertical band on its side that goes with the tripletail .

Definitely tripletail wrasse [I]Cheilinus trilobatus[I]. Should have noticed that the tail had definite pointed top and bottom lobes and then a spadey bit in the middle.
