Predicitions for the future

I reckon we will see a whole heap of new fishing outfits in a few months time. Those of you that haven't heard Rudd is gonna give us all $950 each if we are on moderate incomes. That would be most of us I think.

I'm gonna pay off my credit card so that I am one step closer to buying the coffee machine/grinder package I want at $1200.

Looks a little something like this.

Anyone else got any plans?

Justin

Yeah right, the Government is going to give me money?!!! Get real!

I've been paying taxes for over 25 years it all goes to everyone else except me eventhough I am a low income earner. I've never ever got the First Home Owners Scheme, nor the Family/Children's Allowance, never ever got a single cent from the Govt, not even the dole! I think they discriminate against me cos I am Single!

I'll believe it when I see it!

Why the hell dont they just call it what it is? Its a tax cheque, its only people who are working who will be getting it and it'll come from the ATO. Its only gonna prololong what innevitable later on in the year.

The article I read said it will come sometime in april. This indicates it isn't gonna be a tax cheque. If ur like me and a wage earner it is unlikely that you will have tax payable when your assessment comes so to me it isn't really a tax cheque for me. It will be exactly the same as the previous payments in dec but focused and workers. The article also said it will also be available to families that receive the family tax benefit but i'm not sure if there is a requirement for you to be eligible for part b. That means that those families will get this one even though they got the last one also. I heard on the radio it is available to people earning less than 80k but the article said 100k. That counts in a lot of people. 8.4m people to be exact.

It is another generous move by Mr Rudd but as the opposition said lump sums are more likely to be used to reduce debt or increase savings. This wouldn't be a problem if it weren't for the fact that the intention behind the payments is to increase spending and stimulate the economy.

Its wishful thinkingg but as lone ranger said, we the ones that have gone thrrough thick and thin for all these years get a whole load of promises and when they shout and scream "CANDY", were always the ones to miss out. The ones that work and pay Taxes dilligently....

I think that the last handout that was given, went to a lot of people that missjudged the true need of the handout and splurged it on their own needs like shoes, booz, trinkets, and technology... Instead of spending it on their kids welfare or their own.

Its hard to draw a line in the sand to who should get what, but when their saying that billions have been wiped off the local economy, its hard to judge who's who in the sense to recieve it. I would like a cheque in the mail for $1000, but if i dont i know the local p!ss head will be town the tavern, or the mother with 4 kids that needs it will be buying her latest hand bag while the kids go witthout the shoes they need....

Its a real stupid means testing that the australian govt has employed, they shoud wake up to themselves, and Mr Rudd should take the reins a little tighter...

Ur right. The govt spending is essential but for some reason the current govt has a problem with deciding how best to spend the money. Perhaps I'm being a little critical. At the end of the day the govt should be spending the money other ways. An example would be more money to subsidizing child care to get mothers back in to the work force or perhaps spend the money on supporting the industries that are failing right now. This of course would have a flow on effect and the money would eventually make to all of us.

You really think that? Theres plenty of hard working families struggling at the moment, including mine, that may not need this money but aren't far off it. With 5 mouths to feed, the soar in food prices alone have put the squeeze on, let alone any other rising costs, add to that the fact that the school year has just started. I hardly drink and the Mrs doesn't buy new handbags but we're looking forward to a bit of help to ease tensions at home.

The whole point of this, and the last lot of money, is to get people to spend. Why do you care what others spend theirs on?

Ever heard the saying don't look a gift horse in the mouth?

I'm with Cleetus. I work damn hard, and I'm not going to poo, poo the money! it will come in damn handy!

Sorry for the rant, but JESUS!!!

Looks to me like if I had moved out of home before the legal age with some sop story, I probably would have got some Govt assistance in supporting me. If I am lazy and don't wish to work and don't like school all I have to do is leave school and without much difficulty I can get the dole and be a beach bum and the Govt will fund for my alcohol and smokes and drugs if I[m lucky. If I had had a child out of wedlock, the Govt would have supported and encouraged me. When I used to be a Mothercraft Student nurse years ago, heaps of teenagers were having babies as single parents mainly so that they could get some Govt assistance and don't have to go to work. Makes one wonder where the Govt is leading us?

However if one is doing the right thing all their lives, they will keep paying taxes all their lives to help support those who don't give a sxxx and they will never get a cent.

Well, just my opinion and now I feel better after my rant!

I still dont like the idea that you can do whatever you like with it, for it to stimuate the economy like they want it too it needs to be spent in australian stores.
I think the best idea is a debit style card that can only be accepted at and in stores and businesses where the dollars stay here.
I know it would take longer to get that up and running, but really does everyone need it this minute?
