Urgent: Rod recommendation for this weekend

Admittingly i'm not that satisfied with my setup:

shimano symetre 2500fi and a ugly stick 1.95m 3-6kg rod k662Sp

The rod seems a bit too heavy for the reel, can anyone recommend me a rod for this reel.

I'm going to be doing mainly bait fishing, but occasional SP - was thinking carbon fibre rods but not sure how to match it to my reel.

http://www.shimanofish.com.au/publis...ymetre_FI.html

Do i get something rated for my reel line capacity? 3-5kgs?

Keen to get out on the waters tomorrow morning.
Budget $100 max.

I can understand why ur not liking your current setup. Ugly sticks really aren't the nicest rods to use. I believe they are over priced but thats not to say they don't serve a purpose. As something tough that you can give to anyone to thrash around they are perfect. If you want something for lure fishing you really want graphite. As people have said the starlo stix are quite good for the price. Anything made of graphite will give you better feel than the ugly stick though. I wouldn't suggest a $50 rod though as it is likely you will just want to upgrade it in the future.

drop into anaconda they have 40% off rods, take your reel with you so you can stick it onto different rods and see how they feel

Shimano Raider II is good bang for your buck if you can spend a little more - I got mine for $120. For under $100 go the starlo stix lite - it was the one I had chosen at the lower end of my budget when I upgraded.

You could get a Shimano Sahara, they are a good reasonably cheap lure rod. last time i saw them it was a DohDohDoh and it was $70.

the more you spent the better it will be but thats my advice. it comes in a 3-5KG. i'm not sure if it goes lighter.

great bang for buck starters rod the 2-4kg 7' will handle bream , flatties , rats , jewies , snapper , its a fairly stiff rod though with loads of grunt in the back end has loads of versatility an will do a great job as a general use rod until you want to go to a specalist more finese bream outfit down the road

walks all over the fragile blue staro stix

got a few fisho's in my local that swear by them for rack an flatty fishing

i think the older models can be had for $60-$70 the version 2 models about $90-$110

Hi taybelZ,

As other said Starlo stick or Berkley Drop Shot is probably your best options. My friend uses the 2-4kg starlo stick and have caught fish up to 4-5 kgs no problem. However you need to know that, there isn't a rod for bait fish and soft plastics. Generally bait fishing, you will use heavier sinker that is out of the rod's casting weight, where these graphite rods are designed to cast very light weight jigheads. You have to cast very carefully when bait fishing otherwise you'll find yourself with a broken rod tip
