Fishing structure

Only started using SPs more regularly i have started to land alot more flathead, but I am still waiting for my first bream, im assuming my techniques are mainly for targetting flatties, could someone tell me if these are the right areas to start targetting bream on SPs, I always land average 15-20cm breams here and whitings on bait (prawns), but was wondering if its my technique thats causing me to not land any bream on SPs, ive tried sandworms, 2"shrimps, wrigglers, 3" minnows(Gulp and Powerbait) just to name a few
Also would Poppers be successful in here?

The water height would be around 0.5-1m from the start of the walkway to the end
In the 2nd and 3rd photo contains a fair bit of rocks with oyster growth that is inhabited by crabs and nippers (during low tide)

Ive tried 1/32, 1/16 and 1/8th jigheads, i much prefer the 1/16-1/8 for the casting distance

that looks like some nice structure, better than i have seen anywhere around the gold coast. Fishing structure i would reccoment being out of sight, if youcan see the structure the fish can see you, either as u are or your shaddow... im starting to relise that wear dark cloathing and move yourself out of direct line of the structure.

Cast just past the structure and retreive in all maners of retreives, mix it up a bit. No doubt someone else with more knowledge will reccomend u something but yeh the key is to stay hidden...

As soon as you've spooked the fish there, u may as well move on.... it sucks but its life, and another thing is dont visit the site day in - day out leave it alone for a while so the fish arent totally spooked from your fishing and become accustomed to the lures you use.

What he said. You gotta work hard if you want to catch bream because they are just that much smarter than flatties.

If the water is clear, then low light conditions ie: sunrise, sunset would be better because they are more confident to come up closely.

Cast and fish as close to the structure as possible. Although that means you're more than likely to get snagged, you're using SPs so it's not as bad as losing a $20 lure. I must have lost at least 20 jigheads from snags before I got my 1st bream.

Don't be afraid to try all kinds of retrieves, even seemingly crazy ones. You'll be surprised how often you get a bream when you're fooling around with your retrieve rather than doing it by the book.

All the best with getting your first bream. It's worth it

Just give it time, it took me 3 months to land my first bream on SP. If your are getting heaps of flattys be thankful that you have got catching them worked out! Anyway flattys sit on the bottom so maybe you are using a jighead that is a little to heavy, Try a light jighead, something that sinks slower. Squidgy resin heads are good with stickbaits. Or just use a really light jig so you can work your plastics more shallower. When the tide is high like in your pictures the bream will move right up shallow to feed in ares that are usually underwater. So as the other guys said you have to be a little more discreet when moving around. as you can spook fish. Poppers are definitely worth a try at high water. Just try lighter jigs with your SP's and slow the retrieve right down. The key to plastics is to work them real slow! Have patience and it will happen. Your definitely fishing some good ground that will hold bream

would you recommend i cast adjacent to the mangroves and alongside the rock walls/walk way? So casting dead set in the middle is a no go for bream?

You gotta try lots of different options. Just dont stick to casting in one are. try under the overhanging branches, and along the wall mix it up. Just be aware where you shadow is casting in relation to the position of the sun. Being so close to the structure you really gotta pay attention to moving around. Make sure you arent casting a shadow into where your casting especially as its so sunny. When its overcast you dont have to be so strict with this.

looks like a top breamin spot mate, just wear dull coloured clothing, spot your target, sneak up on him (because 90% of the time bream see you first), cast way past him, slow (as possible) retrieve or little bounces and twitches past his nose and he will munch it. but just remember bream can be frustratingly fussy so just keep at it. be persistent and eventually you will find what works best for you. good luck mate and i hope your first sp'd bream is an absolute monster

looking at them pics and what u been talking about i would say use a plastic like a gulp peeler crab , gulp craws or squigy critters.
try using a 1/32oz or a 1/24oz jighead so u can retrieve very slow.
when using critters, craws or peeler crabs just cast as close to the snag/structer as u can the let it sit and give them 3 little hops of the bottem just keep doing this with about a 5second pause between hops.

Next outing i shall try a wider variety of SPs and try a variety of techniques.
MinnowMan: I have never really been able to spot bream in that depth of water, maybe my polaroids arent strong enough or somewhat.
Danp: Ive always tried to cast close up to the mangroves in the 3rd picture, but leaving them still for a few seconds will always result in a snag on the pneumataphors, any suggestions with that?

Try using weedless jigs/hooks or try the squidgy resin heads. You need a SP that has a jig that weighs next to nothing. This will slow the sinking down and allow you to work the surface level of water.

you never been able to spot a bream? lol they are incredibly easy to spot. you seem to have to have some of shallow rocky areas in those pics, bream will feed in those rocky shallows (even the BIG ones at the right time and tide). bream (when feeding/searching) will sometimes lie flat on their side and do a kind of quick swim shimmy, this quick action makes a distinct bream shaped silver flash, thats how you locate them. its a sight you see all the time in bream rich spots.
