Float fishing

Hello everybody,

On the weekend I fished my local river, which had just received about 5 inches of rain, with a float. My rig was pretty simple: bubble float, 2m 6lb fluorocarbon, and then a size six mustad hook.

I started off with beach worms as the bait, but quickly changed because I noticed that a long the banks there were live earth worms everywhere. I thought that they would make better bait so I chucked them on. About 3 hours later and I still hadn't had a touch.

The reason why I put the worms on the hooks was because I thought that's what the bream (and the other fish) would be after; matching the hatch.

It's the middle of the winter and so I wasn't expecting too much from the river but I've seen activity from fish there before. Can anyone give me some tips for fishing with a float.

I also toyed with the idea of putting a Gulp worm on, would that do any good?

Thanks a lot I was only using the bubble float for casting distance. I'll see how far I can cast an unweighted worm; perhaps a ultra light jighead would be better.

I use to use a the smallest sinker possable or split shot

gulp can be used like bait or put it on a light jighead and try your luck working along the bottom

Back in my bait fishing days, i used powerbait 3" minnows in pumpkinseed and cut it into three pieces, and on a float caught all my garfish on the, far out fishing bread and such.

Try not using a float and try with a sinker.
