Questions for & RE. HOTRODS ???
Firstly Breamin Guys a Gals its a pleasure to be on board to fill the large shoes thet Steve and Cindy have worn here on the site for so long !
Ive started this thread as an avenue for any questions re. my Business that any of the BM member might have rather than clog up the "anouncment from BD' thread as it should be archived as a respected testamonial to Black Diamond Rods. Although ive been building commercially for 10 years or so, ive had minimal exposer to the WA & QLD crew as im based in NSW, and my work is at them moment fairly limited to NSW, VIC and SA. So fire away at your leasure !

Hey Perrie,
Just a suggestion you may want to post up some pics and general prices to start with. The rods you built for Fats and Station 49 look awesome. Maybe create some interest from there. Just a thought and as long as it is ok with Bear and Co. Dale. |

Yeah good idea Dale...
i might start with a bit of background and take it from there... as previosly posted you can go Directly to my site for a comprehencive roundup of the HOTRODS 'off the shelf' line up http://www.perrieshotrods.com The main focus of the business in the past 3 to 4 years has been ultralight to light spin rods with the design & devlopment of firstly the STALKER range and shortly after the SwizzleStik range or spin rods. We where living in Southern Adelaide at that time not far from the bream infested Onkaparinga river so R & D was a pretty simply operation. Allthough i have been purely a design and make to order builder for he majority of my early operation the rapid expansion of the bream spinning fishery and the thirst for quality and specifically designed finesse tackle was huge. So i pured a heap of cash into components and blanks to find a combination and design that i felt would stand out a little in the market place and hopfully get used. The design precess followed a pretty simply ideal. the right blanks, FUJI new concept guides and a light weight minimal Ergonimic grip set up. after a few trials in settled on a selection of HASTINGS blanks. good price for an amazing product and great service. guides where easy grips where the tricky one. the old FUJI IPS seat had just been upgraded to the new honey soft feel or deluxe model and the new KDPS hood design, so i ran with that as pre fitted cork and EVA was in good supply. and after investigating the japanesse styles of light spin rods i ran with the hood down set up as i felt it allowed more feel to be transmitted via a fixed and short foregrip. and the SwizzleStik was born and since has been very popular...UNTILL our friends at FUJI aus. informed me that the Deluxe IPS had been scapped ![]() BUT to my delight they have now replaced it with the new VSS seat. much more streamlined and ergonomic than the previous IPS seat. and the SS long cast butt range is now built using those seats with the IPS-KN standard seat used for the Deluxe hood up grip design... so thats the basics of he story so far... so for the bream nuts the range on offer at them moment is: 4 models in the STALKER range 1-2kg and 2-3kg 2 base models with alconites 2 ELITE models with Titanium frame sics (TATSG's) and the choice of 2 grip designs the Stubbie grip (which im about to revamp) and the deluxe grip. there are 9 models in the SwizzleStik range in 6'6, 6'10, 7' & 7,6, mostly 1 piece models and using Fuji Alconite guides and again the same rods upgrade to the TATSG guide become the SwizzleStik ELITE range... the ELITE PRO is the top shelf with a blank upgrade and bream weave included... Currant price range runs from $385 to $635 with alt. custom options available... there is a good range of shots on my site to peve @ and i can send any other shots i might have on file by email if requested... .

But I'm still trying to get enough fishing in with the one! And for everyone here is a pic of a rod perrie built me a few months back... I love it!

yes mate im toying with a new blank now..its a mid range HASTINGS blank in the United series (duel helix) skinny sucker 1.8 tip to 10m butt, 2 piece.
its rated at 2-4 on paper but i wouldnt be to scared going as low as 1kg its a fastish taper, very responsive and forgiving but still flicky and powerfull...yet to do any solid testing with it yet, but it feels good flicking taped up poppers out the back ! MAINEVENT is about to get 1 (or should have last week but due to a minor stuffup it went to QLD instead !) and he willprobly get the chance to wave his around before i get to do the same with mine....so keep an ear out...

Congrats on your successes & the rods certainly look schmik!
I was wondering if you'll be looking at making the fly rods that Cindy was talking about? Ever make any custom jobs? |

thanks Juggler...
no fly rods..i have built a few in the past, but in reality ...i SUCK at using them so i have no basis or idea of what im building and wether it was satisfactiry..so i stear clear of them... as for customs yes..im specifically a design and make to order builder. the range on the site has simply evolved to keep up with the market place... as most of the orders these days come from someone sitting at the computer google'ing 'i wanna custom rod' and up pops all the relivant custom rod building sites. so along the lines of my introduction, i got stuck into offereing an Off the Shelf line because the angler wants as much info as possible on where to invest his or her money. so far this week for instance i have 5 Swizzles, 2 nativecast's, couple of general 7 & 8 foot spin sticks and a surf rod resotration..so the fun never stops ! i AM a custom builder so (apart from fly rods err) i will dopretty much anything..ask FATS....took 5 weeks to settle on his Swizzle CUSTOM number...

Yes the Fly is a difficult beast to tame.... It's cool though- I have a rod builder that specialises in surf rods down the road that has done a few fly rods so I can hit him up next time I want to lighten my wallet in that manner.
I fish fly & light spin & to tell the truth I've not seen rods with such a foward thinking approach to "outstanding asthetics" as yours. Keep up the good work!!! |

Heres a few pictures of the rod Perrie has done up for me. I decided to go with something a bit different for the grip, and it has turned out great.
