G Loomis SR842-2 feedback

I would like to buy a good quality rod for bream fishing, particularly for flicking HBs on the flats. I have had a look at a G Loomis SR842-2 - I like the 7' x 2 piece and they feel fantastic for the job I have in mind (running 2lb & 4lb max) but before I take the plunge I was wondering if I could get some feedback from anyone who has had experience with one already.

Cheers mbp

P.s - would be interested if anyone has a good 'second handy' they want to get rid of as well.

Warranty on a Loomis is pretty much second to none, Id try and go IMX or even GLX if you have the bickies.... But yeah most Loomis sticks are real nice, im sure you won't be disapointed, Ive broken 2 x $600 rods and have forked out $150 each time for replacement - brilliant if you ask me, especially the no questions asked part.

Not sure about the one your looking at, but no doubt it will be a beauty.

cheers

Seems to be a reasonble turn of rods as well in WA, so there is every chance one will pop up second hand on here at some stage. Good luck.

I have this rod in the GLX.
It's my favorite stick across all the rods I have.
You'll most likely find a lot of people prefer a faster action though, I really like the progressive curve, as it suits my fishing style perfectly. On the flats it suits the smaller hards and plastics, as that action loads to use the rods tensile properties nicely. If you want to throw slightly heavier hards, then something with a stiffer butt section would be better (but not by much IMO)

Is your spec of 2 and 4lb line, in braid, or fluoro? This would influence your choice. 2lb fluoro is pretty fine, and would require some finesse, even with the 842-2 if you happen to meet a 40cm.

Cheers, Craig.

btw. 842-2 atm on ebay.

Hi mbp,

I have owned a SR842-2 in GLX for about three years now. Is my fave rod. Use it prob 80% of the time for sp's mainly lighter weights 1/28 and 1/40th. Use it with 2 and 3lb braid with a twinpower 1000. Currently looking around for one in IMX. It is the kind of rod that the more you use the more you like it, IMO.
cheers Muzz

I have a couple in IMX that are 4 years old.
Perfect for running straight threw fluro on with light presentations.
I have mine matched with 2506 Exists and 2lb sunline.
I had them stripped back and re done with Gold Cermets 2 years ago as the standard guides didn't last.
I find them a little whippy and not a fast enough action for anything over 1\16th but perfect for that and lighter.

Thanks Richo - I have decided on a GLX and, although I much prefer to buy local, at the end of the day I could not go past the savings made by purchasing this rod in the US. I have placed an order with the American Legacy Fishing Co. at http://www.gloomis.us/ and will let you know how it goes.

Cheers mbp
