Changing Butt Size?...............Diet & Exercise........

nah seriously, hack saw. But u may want to finish the end off properly afterwards (you may be able to re-use the one you cut off.... if it had one)

If it's a 1 piece no dramas, just a shorter rod. 2 piece you will end up with different length sections. If you can live with that, fine.

Tape or mark around the grip to give yourself a reference line to cut to, and use a fine toothed hacksaw, so as not to tear up the cork too much. EVA you can use a single edged razor blade to make the cut through the grip to the blank, then use the hacksaw. Don't use the saw on EVA, it will rip it up.

You'll need a new buttcap to finish off the end, or if you can recycle the old one, fine. Pay attention to how it's secured: you may have to remove a little grip material after you've cut the butt in order to fit the cap on a tape bushing and get it snug to the grip.

Single To Split Handle

What about changing it from a single handle to a split handle?

Replied in other post. If you are shortening the butt, then splitting the grip is also something you can do at the same time, while you are at it with the hand tools. Pliers, stanley knife, file, lighter or some form of heat, dull blade to scrape epoxy.

Cut off the butt cap carefully, along the glue line where it meets the regular cork. It shouldn't be on the blank, so should come off fairly easily. Sand it as close to square as you can with coarse sandpaper.

Proceed to cut off the excess handle length. A wrap of tape around the handle will help keep everything square. Then use epoxy adhesive (Araldite, Devcon 2 Ton) to glue the butt cap back on. Clean up excess epoxy with a rag and metho, and tape down the cap securely with electrical tape to hold it in place until the epoxy sets. If you have the time and coordination, you can use 5 minute epoxy and hold it until the epoxy sets. Then tape it up and let it cure fully.

Shape the butt cap a bit if needed, and smooth out the transition with sandpaper. Then go fish!!
