Knots?

Help!!!!!!!

I have just spent an hour trying to attatch fireline to powerline with several knots. The Albright gave Me the best strength, but only after many attempts!! I have used this knot for years to attatch leaders to fly line, but did i get frustrated today!!!!!

I rarely have trouble with the Albright, the trick is to do a heap more turns than if you're joining mono-mono, and I adjust it a bit so I do around 8-10 turns up the leader, then the same back, rather than all the turns up and just threading it back through the mono loop.

I hope that reads O.K. It's a hard knot to explain properly without a picture

Dave, Do you put the fireline around the mono or do you wrap the mono around the fireline?? i used to have lotsa probs with the fireline when it was new and i resorted to a half blood over the fireline with the mono and a palomar in the fireline around the mono.
Once the slippery finish wears off the fireline i find it ties and holds well with the albright alone.

I was shown a quick and easy one called a 24 knot by the tackle shop man. wrap the fireline around the mono atleast 20 times then tie a basic granny but wrap/wind it through four times. spit and tighten. I have found this to give a small knot size in some of the bigger leaders and doesn't pull through with the finer leaders. And still has good knot strength.

Cheers

Simon

simon its called a twisted leader knot and its my first choice for joining fireline to mono.

geoff wilson tested it and reckons its the strongest knot to join fireline to mono. ive never lost a fish using it and its soooo easy to tie

im debating whether to change to a double (bimini twist), for extra strength, for the comp or sticking to what i know. extra strength vs confidence.....choices choices

cheers pete

My mate showed me the twisted leader not and i have never looked back since. It is so easy to tie and also ties well in windy conditions when fireline can be a bugger to tie with. It is that simple .
Find it in wilson's book and use it guys.
Seriously!

The albright has really worked for me much so i tried the bimini twist with a double uni knot and i tel ya, its very hard to break if you do it right.

Fireline goes around the mono - I don't even tie a double, just double over the Fireline, piece of piss

I use the uni-uni knot. Do about 8-10 turns and you'll find a very strong and low profile knot. Pull it tight enought and you can clip it right down and it will never slip.

Hey guys
I've found the double uni is very effective when tied with 4lb fireline to 6 or 8lb mono, but anything stronger (or thicker) i use the twisted leader knot.
I just find it easier this way, as i don't double my fireline. I haer that your suppossed to, but i'm yet to loose a fish at the leader knot so i'm not changing anything!!! Touch Wood
