Minimising Leader Length Loss

Hey there everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone had any hot tips for non-snag country (where more frequent leader change is required), in the "keeping your leader longer for longer" dept.

Any little tricks to stop that leader creeping rapidly up towards the main line through frequent lure changes and re-ties?

Perhaps something along the lines of what I described in the siglon leader thread earlier?

All the best,

Simple - A fly Clip,

Im not a user myself, but I know Davo and several others use them with great effect, all reports are the lure is unaffected. And a quick change over is possible. I myself am unconvinced, I try to add as little to the lure as possible. Give them a go and see what you think.

Cheers

g'day chris,
i use the mustad fly clips, the medium size works well, means lure changing is easy and leader doesn't have to be cut all the time, some people say it reduces action of lure/jig and this may be so but for my own personal preference they seem to do the job well.they rust quickly though so wash off with f/water after a session.cant use them with sneaky's though as tow point is too large so uni knot for them.get them online at b/m.
cheers

Hey Guys.
Mate i use the smallest snap swivels that are on the market. The Italian ones are the best (cant remember the name). Just cut the swivel off with your pliers or wire snips! They hardly effect the lure if you get the right ones. Heavy snaps will, but i still have very good hit rates when fishing next to guys without them. I am convinced! Great for someone like me who changes the lure very often!

I got mine from Fisherman's Paradise in Applecross. They are black and made of thin gauge wire. Unfortunately i cant post pics coz my brother is a homo and uninstalled all our Adobe software. I'll try and get a pic in the next few days!

Hey Chris,
I used to stress about the same thing, so I started using longer and longer leaders hehe.
I connect my lures with a loop knot (lefty's loop to be precise) and after a lot of on-the-job practice I can tie them quick and with a minimum of wastage. Another thing is to really think hard about what lure you are gonna tie on, I don't change very often and usually get as least as many fish as my best mate who changes lures like you wouldn't believe. That could be a subject for another thread actually.
I will never, as long as I live, use a clip on my lure. I know they will still catch fish, but when that 6 pounder comes up to my lure for a real good look, I don't want any extra crap hanging off it, if you get my drift.
Cheers
Duncan
