150 e-tec HOv150 optimaxv150 honda

gday all
looking at a new power plant for the new boat.im setting up a new tournament rig and the more i speak to salesman the more confused i get.the boat will be used to get from point a to point be as fast as possible with a little bit of trolling on occasions for trout and kingies.
so i thought the best people to ask is the people with em.
so im after the good the bad and the ugly on each one speed ,services, reliability, economy and smoothness at idle.any help would be great.
by the way the hull will be a 5.2 mako pro series.

cheers donk

Donk

I have an Evinrude 150 ,but not the HO version, and it has been great. No probs.
I did talk to one of the dealers and he said that they had had a few power head probs with the HO version.
The heads had been changed over under warranty no probs. ?

hope that helps.

I've driven the 150 HO and it rocks, they are suppose to a fair bit more reliable than the standard 150, as they are upgraded through the running gear. I know the yammys are good as well. Every sales guy will tell you a different story behind there competitions motors, generally the information isn't too positive. Yammy's have been know as one of the best reliable motors on the market for quiet some time. You will pay a little more for them and the servicing but they are know to be bullet proof. The newish Suzi's have had heaps of positive feed back as well, but l don't know anyone who's used them for long enough to say they are proven.

Ive got the 150 HPDI VMAX on the back and cant fault it. Very fuel economic as well as its high pressure direct injection (thus HPDI) and with its engine management it only uses the cylinders as required (V6). That is it doesnt fire on all cylinders when just idling for example, certainly helps with economy. I in my view it has the best looking cowling.
