i dont claim to be a expert on the Swan but i have been do a bit of reserch for the weekend.....
Rain normally helps the fishing in winter as it pushs fish down stream and then the water color makes the fish feel better about feeding around the down stream locations BUT you will have to SLOW down your presentations as the water is pritty cold. i am not to sure how mutch rain Perths had i know we have had about 6" down here in the last week. Conditions to expect for the weekend? Let me guess. I reckon it will probably be a 4am wake with the alarm clock, and in total darkness and freezing cold you hook the boat up and throw the tackle and the lunch your partner made you into the car. Mad drive to the ramp hoping to be the first, a dark and damp drive from one boat ramp cross to MBSC possibly still in total darkness, and then eventually you get your good 1/2 hour or so rest before the day really starts. You look at the person next to you who is also half asleep and who may be lucky enough to be munching through a totally soaked pie from the garage station. He will look at you and greet you with a yawn! Then when Bear yells out your number from the bottom of his lungs, your day has only just begun! Could be a day of 6 hours of mad storm and gusty winds. As you see the sun pop out with warmth, you strip off your wet weather gear and you suddenly get your only hit! After a few words to God or whatever, you look up and darkness is over your head again and back goes your wet weather gear. Few hourse later you get the occasional hits from our delightful blowies and our few friendly little rats. You plod your way through the rest of your day, cast after cast ignoring the lunch that your partner made you. And if your mother was there she'd probably wash your mouth out with a cake of soap! And if you are one of the lucky ones to get a size fish, look ahead of you and beside you and behind you, all eyes are watching you!!! And Day 2, trust me, they will be there first!
Then when it comes to weigh in time, you give a sigh of relief and say, thank God it's over, until Day 2 comes along! ![]() Serious now, weather has been unpredictable, been changing at the last minute. Like Saturday was suppose to be windless with the odd shower or two. Anyway mate and I went out and the sun was out weather looked fine and no wind but 20 mins after we hit the waters, it started pouring and I mean real pouring non stop and the wind was strong too. We fished for only 1 1/2 hours not a hit, not a blowie and that was from Maylands up to Ascot only! ![]() Have a good weekend all, should be rather interesting. Last comp in Perth 16 boats caught out of 42 boats.Have a good one all!

My understanding has always been that rain in the catchment is what causes the big flush of fresh that sends fish downstream, whereas localised showers, however heavy, don't do that much. I've often found the water a lot clearer after a little rain (think about it, if you pour more water into your cup of tea/coffee it makes it clearer) and bloody cold, how you feel about really cold gin clear water and bream is up to you
Thats just my theory, I could be way off track Duncan |

Have you seen the river lately? It's full as a boot. the bastards will be hanging in deep water. The shallows will be flushed with fresh water and therefore won't hold any but the hardiest fish. they will be slugish to say the least and very hard to tempt. extra slow. don't make them work too hard or they will lose interest. Do'nt take my word for it though, I'm just a gumby
WTF do I know Just my opinion. Good luck. It will be hard all round.

Have been keeping an eye on the forcast for the weekend hoping for no rain.
Yesterday said it would be a clear weekend but I've noticed they have changed their minds today and have gone with a bit of rain for Saturday Looks like I'll be searching for some wet weather gear before the weekend
