Some guys who shore bash do it, but I'd be leaving it on if you're boating. It can make a bit of a difference, but more in the fact that the second treble often sticks into the body for a more secure hookup.

If your snagging lures, there's an easy way to avoid losing the lure. if you feel the lure snag up, dont pull hard against it straight away, let the line go slack and the lure should float up and clear of the snag. Alot of the time the lure's hooks aren't stuck, just the bib, and the angle that your pulling from makes it feel locked in place.

theres a couple of reasons i've heard to remove the front trebel. some feel it dose less harm to the fish .... who knows on that one.
others say less snags .... maybe. the best / most accurate reason i've come across so far is when fishing weedy flats removing the front trebel seams to reduce weed fowling the lure. i've notice it works weed wise & my hook up rate has not seamed to vary to much, but i'm generaly fishing "small" hard bodies & on larger / longer models i'm sure it would make a differance. JMO macca
