Trevor Price netting information

After reading Warren's post on the front page i decided to give an old aquaintance a call and see what he thinks we can do about this.
This person is Frank Prokop of Recfish West. My father, Stephen Gilders, is a member on the Recfish board and has introduced me to Frank on several occasions. I digress
Anyway there is actually some information coming to the press very shortly about the commercial benefits recreation fishing with a highlight on the BREAM tournaments because of the catch and release and the continuing expenses all members of these tournaments spend. Look at the Perth AoY round. Conservitally the value of boats on the foreshore was put in at $300,000.

Anyway Frank has suggested that we ALL contact the fisheries Minister with a written letter (rather than a pettition) explaining the impact etc is it having on each person. His reccomendation was for some one to write 6 or 7 paragraphs and each of the BM members select a few paragraphs that we feel appropriate to our needs. There is no point putting in all of them as it will just seem as a mass mail out.
Anyway, in Franks words the whole Trevor Price problem is coming to critical mass."
Currently Fisheries are looking at the re-stocjking program but are reluctant to remove the netter because of donations or something similar (of the record btw)
I will be keeping Frank informed with what is going on here and he will do the same for me.
So now we get to it. The make up of the letters.
Anyone feel like putting their hand up?
I will be doing one on behalf of ANSA members and getting the clubs to sort it out but I dont have time to do a larger one for BM members. However I will be happy to help the person/s that are doing it.
If you need to get hold of me, drop me a PM and I will send you my mobile number.
Also put forward any thoughts you have.

Hi Bubba, sounds like things are coming to a head on this issue. There was some talk on it over at Western Angler last year, and pleny of people wrote in to Kim Chance. Most just received the standard form letter back and heard nothing more. However, if we keep up the pressure, something will have to be done about this problem.

The saltwater flyrodders club is also looking at trying to get into Kim Chances ear about this with petitions and maybe face to face meetings. I know Chris Dunham (from flyworld) is driving this issue in the flyclub at least, and is very keen on getting some action, so hopefully he will see this post.

Cheers

I know they keep his chest puffed up by saying that he provides breeding stock from his catch.

Why not offer to get a heap of the BREAM guys out with fisheries and do the job for them?? I'll do it.

Hey guys.
I will happily donate fingerlings for the cause.
I met Dennis, who runs the Ocean Farm, last week. I might ask him if we can get some special deals on fingerlings from him!
I had a nice chat to him about the breeding programs they run.it is very interesting to say the least!

Talking psychic

call me psychic, but I get the impression that our friendly bream master is a little "unhappy" with netting for bream.

i hope we aren't jealous because the pro catches more fish than us

hahahaha i crack myself up. good to see a bit of passion about our environment. rex will be proud of us

ps yes i have sent my email to mr chance. if we don't fight for the bream, no other b*st*rd will.

It's not just us check this out....

As the editor of WA's number one selling fishing publication I get many phone calls and emails from recreational anglers. This email below is just one of about 100 email and phone calls I have received about netting the last six months. I got it this morning. I've withheld this guys email address but am happy to supply it to the powers that be.

Date : 290403
Name : Richard Massang
Question : I just spent 4 days down in dunsborough / augusta and went fishing everyday. It was disappointing to not catch a salmon durin the peak of the salmon season. I know the pros need to earn a buck but they sure cleaned up the salmon before any of us rec fisherman could catch any. How do we catch any salmon (besides being given one by the pros)? It spoiled my holiday a bit as i wanted to catch some salmon on light gear. Where else can I go that doesnt have pros to catch bream & salmon? Love the mag and TV show, keep up the good work.

See that is just goddamn annoying and heartbreaking!
I heard many reports of huge schools of Salmon in Albany last year. They were supposed to migrate north , but the damn netters have prolly got to them first!
This is plain stupidity. Imagine the money people would spend on trips, gear, food, etc, if we could be garaunteed an awesome session on Salmon. If the netters stay in operation, we are never gonna get that chance.
Its a real shame, because small towns would love the influx of cash from sport/recreational fisherman. Shame the govt. doesn't see it that way!

Ira,
One thing that bugs me is that we only ever seem to get the $$$ stats on what the pro puts back into the economy. Have you thought of getting them to publish what WE (BREAM comp) and other rec fishos spend.

The reporting balance seems to be very one sided at the moment in certain publications.

Sean I'm currently doing an article for the mag for next month to show what we spend V's what the pros spend on bream.

Craig C has just completed his assignment for his Fisheries management course and guess what he’s done, black bream.

He’s just done a whole heap of research into what the pros make for the economy, which as we know is f#$% all. I’ll publish it along with we have made for the economy and I’ll be sending a copy to the Fisheries minister as well.

You'll all be recieving a survey from me soon so please fill it out and get it back to me pronto.

Cheers.....

Im sure we have some financial GURU's amonst us. Why not create an annual budget based on a boater and a non boater.

Another thing that will help our cause is the forming of an organisation (or affiliating with another) and use the political power of the masses.

I remember when as ANSAWA Publicity Officer, we began to talk about setting up the current tagging procedure. We had to lobby Refish and Fisheries (including the then fisheries minister). With the HUGE backing we got from ANSA nNational we we able to be heard.

I understand that there is fees etc associated with forming an organisation (Insurance etc) but as with most things political.. Mob's Rule

I have just written a lovely letter to Kim Chance, explaining that being 18 and now elegible to vote, i will not be voting for the current govt until something is done. I also pointed out the simple and obvious advantages of a no netting policy. I also told him nicely that he should adopt a "Prevention is better than a Cure" attitude!!!
Isn't it sad that an 18 yr old can see things more clearly than an adult who is supposed to be running our Fisheries!!!
Scary Thought!

I just completed yr12 and loved economics. Here is a very interesting point about the money injections made by us!

Our money injections are Autonomous, which simply mean totally independant from other factors. Basically, when we inject cash, it doesn't simply act once, it works in multiples. "One mans spending is anothers income" If i spend $250 on a local economy, it may result in a real spending of more than $1000 as each person in a chain of events is spending his/her money! times that by 50 competitors and we have $50 000!!!
We actually increase an economy's capacity to earn money and spend!

The netter however doesn't increase his spending (capital, wages, etc) so there is no autonomous increase in expenditure. Therefore no effect of the above mentioned multiplier effect. The economy has no future benfit from his work. It is a static monetary flow. Not increasing in anyway!!!

This may seem complicated, but it really is a big point to make to a minister or someone important!!!

HTH

Hi all this is my first post here on Bream Master after many months of lurking in the background.

I just wanted to offer my services as an accountant to help put a figure on the true value recreational bream fishermen and women.
