Hi Matty, I only managed to get out on friday morning for a few hours. Fished from the flying squadron up to matlida bay, with most of my fish coming from the matilda bay area. Most fish were small, biggest 28cm. Agressive little buggars though, fought like much bigger fish.

All up I managed 4 fish to 28cm and dropped about another 4.

I saw Geoff Spads out there too, but don't know how he went.

James.

Matty, I went East Perth way late last week too. Found quite a large number of aggressive grunter and also quite a few smaller bream...particularly on soft plastic under the Goongoonup bridge.

Tried the SPYC a couple of times and got a few from there. Didnt look to be a bad shore bash spot either. Also venture down the Canning around the Sticks and managed a few from there.

Thumbs up old brewery rock walls

Tried this area through to the narrows for a couple of hours thursday arvo while it was raining on a rising tide. We got 5 small bream, whiting and numerous blowies. Dropped two decent fish and saw numerous others feeding on mussels in close. Successful lures included Sneaky Scorps, Attacks and OrG's.

I droped one fish, not a bream probebly a small flathead or big blowie mabye a gobby! a few small bumps and thats is it.
I went out on the bike Sunday for a couple of houres still nothing.
This is getting scary I havent landed a bream for over 5 weeks.
Fishing two or tree times a week help!!!!!

I've fished the stretch between the Causeway and the narrows (Yeah I know that isn't very specific hehe) a few times in the last week from shore, last monday I picked up 10 to about 34cm, on friday I picked up 5 to 42cm plus a couple grunter and a flathead (BOOO!!) and yesterday I had a quick look and got 2, one of them was 40cm though which made up for it
All of them were on the same gold Lil Ripper, which after 2 fish over a kilo in consecutive trips, is just about my new favourite lure

Nah not for a while, been doing some mighty productive shorebashing with a few of the lads though, all down river.

We had to get you onto them eventually Duncan

The other thing is to mix up your retrieves as well. I've found the aggrivated twitch has been doing the damage a lot more with the rains. also been using the pinks a fair bit which has worked well.

Fished the same stretch again this arvo for 6 bream to about 35-36cm plus 3 grunter. Also dropped 4, 2 of which I reckon were in the kilo range, and got busted up once, which was the end of my lucky gold Lil Ripper Lucky I had a couple of spares hehe.
Bear, I'm glad I finally got on the Lil Ripper bandwagon, they are a neat lure. I fished with one of the guys from the state team last week (who shall remain nameless lest I shame him too much hehe) and he actually gave me one as it was doing the damage on that particular day. As for mixing up retrieve styles, I learnt a LOT watching the aforementioned gentleman, I kind of feel like I've turned a bit of a corner if you know what I mean.
Still need to get one over 50cm though.....

Cheers
Duncan

hey Duncan

I think you'll be waiting a while for that over 50cm fish. The largest Bream I've seen is in my avatar at 48cm. That was a couple of years ago and the best since then hit 44cm.

Anyway I also fished the narrows on fri and picked up this beauty.

41cm 1.4kg

Hey JP,
I dunno, I think the 50 is on it's way. My PB at the moment is 47, I've got a 46 and a couple of 45's in the last 2 years, so I think I might be on the right track. Maybe
I know a couple of spots that hold heaps of fish over 50, they are spooky as all hell though, and on the rare occaisions you actually manage to hook one they generally give you a damn good thrashing.
That bream in your avatar looks mammoth, my 47 would have looked good if a certain person named Cole hadn't have left his camera at home grrrrrrrr
I dunno, I might never get it, I should aim for 2kg instead, coz thats's just so much easier haha

yeah I know what you mean! good spots that hold spooky 50's, I have a couple of spots where I try to pull the bigguns but the little aggressors beat the bigguns to the lure hands down.
I personally think they start to top out on size after about 45cm and start to get fatter before longer. The 48 in my avatar was so fat it was unbelievable, people probably think I'm telling fishtales at 2.65kg. I should have weighed the 42 I caught a few weeks ago cos' he was certainly fatter than the 41 that went 1.4kg.
seeya on the water sometime soon

Yeah I know what you mean, I think the majority of big bream stop growing at 45 or so, and just get fat. The other 30% (thats a made up percentage haha) get long but stay skinny, like all my fish over 43cm have been long and lean, whereas I got a fish of 40cm about 3 weeks ago that was built like a football (like the fish in the AOY trophy), after freaking out for a bit I called it for 1.5 easy and popped it back. Should have weighed it (I carry scales and a sling) but I wanted to get it back in pronto.
As for the fish in your avatar, I called it for about 2.7 when I first saw it, so I don't doubt that it was 2.65 hehe
Hmm, this thread has got a bit off track, sorry but I love talking about freak big bream

Hi Duncan

so we sound like a couple of posers oh well just trying to up the ante on large Bream. I am really busting to score bigguns more often. So what are you scoring yours on, fly or spinning gear? I know you're keen on fly fishing and well I'm finding my feet in WA waters and only jumped back into fishing 12 months ago after the initial Bream comps.

If the forum is off track... well so be it
