Excelers retail around $130-150 depending where you get them. I used to have a 2000 size, but sold it to get my Caldia Kix 1500. I'm thinking of getting one again in a month or two once I save up enough.
![]() Very nice reels and with up to 4kg of drag, you can fish it with 14lb braid. I am planning to fill one spool with 12lb for pelagics and the other with 6lb for bream. ![]() However the absense of airbail and the washable/watertight design really hits hard. The Exceler Plus looks good, apart from it weighing 265g in the 1500 size! That really put me off getting one. ![]() Here's a direct quote from Daiwa Australia about airbail: Air Bail "Daiwa's innovative bail design featuring a hollow tubular stainless steel bail for maximum rigidity and strength with minimum weight. Due to the smooth, protrusion-free design of the Air Bail, even loose line common after a cast slides easily down the bail onto the line roller as the reel is rned, without snagging or hanging up."

i think he means 265g, i find reels with airbail lay the line very nicely and it feels alot nicer and more solid in the hand when opening and closing the bail arm.
using a reel with a thin peice of wire as a bail arm feels really weird to me now and i dont think i could ever go back to a reel without airbail. |

I was thinking Tierra instead, but the spools are too shallow for stuff like pelagics. And the Tierra is still heavier than the Exceler by 17 grams.
Exceler: Pros... -Lighter -Cheaper -Deeper spools Cons... -No Airbail -No watertight/washable design Tierra: Pros... -Airbail -Watertight/washable design Cons... -Shallow spools -Heavier -Costs more As you can see, it's a neck and neck race, but I'm leaning on the Exceler to win ![]() I don't think you can buy an airbail individually, but if you can...tell me

haha wouldnt be worth it in my opinion, to get one from daiwa would probably be around $20-30 then theres $10 postage and you've gotta put the thing on and you would probably void your warranty.
why not spend the extra $30 and get a plus that already has airbail, washable design and watertight drag. dont get me wrong excellers are great little reels and not having airbail isnt the end of the world but its something i prefer to have on my reels, all shimano users miss out on airbail and they still catch fish in between wind knots just jokes dont fire up.
