SOL, you get what you pay for (in most cases).

The Tierra would still be a great reel, but the SOL is 1 model up from it, therefore it has some specs that the Tierra doesnt. Value for money wise....that could be a bit of a tighter contest, would the extra specs of the SOL warrent the extra $90? I'm not sure.

The Sol and the Kix is liking splitting hairs . I have both reels and i cant fault them ,for my purposes. The Sol did come with a spare spool where as the Kix didnt . But they are so similar in comparison im currently running the spare Sol spool on the Kix .Its not in the breaming bling bling fashion vogue , but who cares it works . And i can always drop it right back on the Sol when i need to ...

I will vote for kix hands down. The 2004 finnesse model is available and these models weigh 220g and are amazingly powerful.

yep as far as i know the only difference between a sol and kix is that the kix has a plastic rotor whereas the sol does not, and the sol comes with a spare spool.
for the minimal price difference id go the sol everytime just for those two facts.
do love the look of that finesse kix though brad, awesome double handle
for the money i cant fault my tierra either, two identicle spools both with the waterproof drag found in sol and kix and not far off in the overall feel of the more expensive two.

Ooooh, tough choice between the Sol and the Kix. I'd have to go with the Kix though, it just feels that little bit smoother.

il correct myself, by plastic i meant a composite material and yeah i agree it doesnt feel plasticy at all, but supposedly isnt as strong as the metal constructed rotors when under instense load.
for breaming it really makes no difference imo
my tierra is the same, same material used in that and the kix ive been told and it doesnt feel plastic at all.
my vote still goes to the sol for the spare spool and the fact that it is metal even if you cant tell the difference same rotor construction as a certate apparently

meh thought as much.

spare spools dont matter much, ive got a spare spool for my capricorn and im willing to pass it on as it doesnt get used. If i bust off on a snag or fish, picking up another rod and respooling at the end of the day saves time when fish are biting.(Even though one might be handy for bait fishing)

At 220g its the lightest reel out of the two and is a japanese reel, not taiwan or korean or whatever bodgies and badged with a quality name. Have seen/herd a few issues with them and not the caldias.

If i was buying in Aust and desperate for a cheap reel that would do the job then yeah a sol would probably be my pick. Still not a fan of the colours.
