I thought the Cy was lower end than the Exceler (oh No, I was wrong about something )...bit then again, the Cy has Airbail which the Exceler does not...but i prefer the machined handle on the Exceler.

yeah the cy is a step up from the exceler, basicly the same reel except the cy has airbail, a foldable handle and is made from a different material "super metal" in comparison the exceler has no airbail, machined handle, a spare spool and is made from aluminium.
not alot of difference between the two

This is not to purposefully draw you away from supporting your local tackle store if you were planning to go down that path, but you should be made aware that the MRRP for the Cy 3000 is 8000 yen, which, if you take a 90yen/AU$1 conversion rate, gives a AU$90 reel.

What are you on about? Have you forgotten that it's not only the conversion rates that you have to factor in on the pricing structure????

Sorry if I mis-worded my sentences.

I was never meant to say, if I did, that all you need for a Cy is a slick $90. I was only making a reference to the MRRP.

How you acquire it is going to add to that $90 to varying degrees. For example, whenever I'm over in Hong Kong visiting my relatives, I make use of my 15% off VIP discount card at Triton, which would mean I would pay AU$75 for it.

Alternatively, if you buy through Plat or any of those online shops, you have to pay shipping and handling, lose out on currency conversion, and run the 'risk' of having to pay GST upon the reel entering the country.

And finally, there's always the local tackle store that you get lovely service and all. To me, that's not so important.

So, your point is what exactly?

I know how it works, the pricing structure, etc., but the last thing I'd do is buy any fishing gear from HK, considering they got no idea what they're talking about. Also, it's not something I would rely on to be in "top" condition at all times. However, I must admit they have some interesting angling equipment though. And don't forget, you've just paid your plane ticket as well, so you're really not making any sense with what you've said.

I think everyone knows you've got the middle-man in most circumstances and online payment they know you've got shipping and handling costs involved, as it is explained on the online stores, so I'm lost on your account of the information you're trying to portray across.

A bit puzzled......... but anyway....... just interesting bewilderment.

My point exactly is that he should be aware of what the MRRP price of a Cy is, and thus he can make a more informed decision.

Suit yourself if you do not wish to buy fishing gear from HK, but it is rather disrespectful to those who practise legitimate business to be thought as "they got no idea what they're talking about" and "it's not something I would rely on to be in 'top' condition at all times". It is a stereotype you are better off without.

Remember I did say "whenver I'm over in Hong Kong visiting my relatives". Flying overseas to buy fishing gear was never the main objective, so I hardly factor the cost of flying into my fishing gear. But if that's on which you want to base your argument against me, so be it.

I do not wish to prolong this argument anymore, as it detracts from the original topic and is really making negative progress. I think if you had taken my very first comment to this thread as a mere fact, then all would have been well.

I have offered what I originally was going to offer, so I'm done with this thread.

I have the Cy, Revros and Exceler. I don't htink the Cy is rated above the Exceler. Perhaps more similar in grade but with different advantages to each. (i.e. airbail vs more bearings) The Cy has a much heavier handle too although it folds.
