Looking for some links to barra boat builders here in OZ. Prefer WA, but will look at anything.
Thanks,

This is one of the more popular ones for the Barra guides and such. http://www.gsmarine.com.au/
It 's in the NT but I think they sell them at one of the yards in Mandurah. There used to be a guy in Broome that built some of the best looking Ali boats around but I think he lives down this way now. Can't remember the name of the boats though. If you look in one of the Bass, Barra and Bream digests there is usually quite a few different ones in there. Cheers, Dror

Just noticed on the website that there is a dealer in Freo as well. The dealer in Mandurah has a 4.8m Tournament Extreme in the yard. Hard to miss cause it is bright green.

What size bear ? 4.0 to 5.0 metres
What style of hull? What an upstream punt or a full inbuilt reverse chimed skiff? There is plans available for ally boats in just about any style that a ally boat builder can put together for you. I "love" Drors glass boat (look at the website twice a week, but Id have onion rings in the back of my mind the whole time if I were heading out to one of the back creeks up Karratha or similar on gravel roads. I enjoy perusing and dreaming at these plans. http://www.platealloy.com/5metre.htm |

Galvin Marine was the name of the boats that used to be built in Broome. Don't know if he still makes tham though. Knew I would remember once I stopped trying to remember.

If I had the time,
, I'd like to do one myself, but there's no chance of that. I'm looking at something around the 5m mark. I'd love a Bay or something similar, but $$$$ are always an issue. Galvins are the guys who did the barra boats up in Broome, but I don't think he's building any more. I've spoken to him a bit just before he came down.

How soon do you need it Bear? What sought of budget ? I don't think Id bother with paint on a plate hull for that purpose. Especially if its goin up North on Gravel rocky road stuff. Id go a 4.8 reverse chime Skiff as many of the Barra boys head out of the creeks to the river mouths. It appears most of em have Skiffs. One of these would be cool if you had the money for two boats estuary and another ocean. |

Depends on the how quick I can sell the house mate. I've fiddled with some designs in CAD, it's always the time finishing things off.

Bear
What about the Mako 1801 Bream Runabout on boatsonline. Thought it was reasonably priced at $31990 for a new fibreglass Bay boat. Daws

you obviously never seen a Rod Wellington boat(Ocean Pearl), they are the toughest Barra boats you will ever see. Been in one a few times and for a alloy boat it handles the Broome chop pretty dam well. At 5 meters you can handle it easy enough and powered with a 100 Yammie goes very very well. They are also built to survey if required. Nice fat gunnel's with top access for storing just about anything. Not cheap but good stuff never is.
Bear that Mako was for sale without motor at the Mandurah boat show for $20k worth it for sure, trust me I know. If you have a mate selling outboards like Vince you should get out of it cheaply, and theres no ally boat every built that would offer a ride like mine or Dave's. I would act now as that is cheap. I would not sell mine for under $35k |

Haven't seen that one Madaff.
Got to day the Mako with a 90 Optimax is very tempting, just bad timing as per usual.
