daiwa gekkabijin

hey guys
im in the market for a new reel and have narrowed it down to the airity 2506, saltist gekkabijin 2004 or possibly a certate.
whats everyones opinions on these reels, im not so sure about the treated magnesium of the airity and the gekkabijin makes me feel a little more at ease as they are supposedly "designed for saltwater use".
a certate 1500 is probably the front runner at the moment but unsure as to whether i can get one of these through work, whereas i know i can get an airity and possibly the gekka.
Ive used an airity 2506 and loved it but being landbased my reels tend to get scratched up and im worried about scratching through the saltwater proof coating hence my want for a certate.
anybody used the gekkabijin? correct me if im wrong but i seem to remember seeing spiro with one at docks, care to help me out mate??
so yeah im basicly after pro's and con's of each reel, feel free to suggest some other reels just nothing shimano
cheers
luke

They're all quality reels and you don't have to worry about the treated magnesium, it holds up fine in salt.

Certate 1500
-Heaviest of the three
-Ability to customize
-Real 4
Gekkabijin 2004
-Light
-Slow gear ratio for lures
-Good looks
-"Tournament" reel
-Not an all round reel
-Least bearings
Airity 2506
-"Air spool"
-All the features of gekkabijin (except slow gear ratio)

I'd go the Certate, mainly coz of what you said about scratching the Airity, and if you hook a mulloway or something from shore, the Gekka will get spooled quick smart. Front runners for me would be the Certate or Airity. The Airity and Gekka also comes with the cool machined handle, which the Certate does not (optional extra ~$90).

Certate
Pro's: Good Looks, Deeper spool, Real 4
Cons: Heaviest, no machined handle, highest intital cost

Airity
Pro's: LIGHT, reasonable spool capacity, Machined handle, looks to kill, lowest initial cost
Cons: Corrodes if the paint gets a deep scratch

Gekka
Pro's: light, good gear ratio, machined handle
Cons: Small line capacity

The line capacity might not matter, I'm not sure about you, but I use my bream gear offshore too so line capacity is important to me. Have you had a look at the Emeraldas 2506? they're similar to the Gekka, just with a swoopy paint job and handle, not too sure of the stats of em, but same price range.

I'd definately go the Airity 2506 over the Certate.
I can't comment on the Gekka. though.
I've got both the certate 2000 and Airity 2506 and for me the Airtiy is the better real to use.
The Certate does give you more drag though and spool capacity, but my next reel will be an Airity, love'em!
Anyone got one they want to sell!

Theres no such thing as a tournament reel. I uses Capricorns and i fish tournaments....
Ball bearings doesn't mean DohDohDohDohe all either. The amount of bearings in a reel does NOT make it good or bad.

The Gekka is a sick reel to and no way is it not an all rounder. Theres no reel limits on what a reel can and cant do (within reason )

Honestly what ever reel you get there going to be bloody awesome!. You dont need the best (but its always good ) after all your only using it for light spinning.

Oh yeah go the Gekka

Cheers, Nathan

Luke - With the amount of care you young nancy boys take of your gear, exposure to "salt air" shouldnt be a problem with any reel.

I treat my gear rougher than most and have had relatively few problems.......(except those rickety stradics )

Cappy's love punishment. I throw mine over security fences - Belt dive bombing seagulls with them and give them no TLC.

The only probs I encounter are when you take Bream rigs out into PPB chasing Pinkies and your reels get saturated.

I've seen much more expensive reels from Diawa and Shimano craps themselves under similar conditions.

I got 4 cappies - 2 second handers - and 2 bought new - the reason I buy second hand is I know noone will ever treat them like I do. 1 year with me is 10 with Anuvva Bruvva.

My list of probs with Cappies extends to worn out bail springs and rusty line roller bearings. If they hadnt been saturated in salt water without rinsing they'd probably have faired better.

A brand new reel will always feel better - tell me how it feels in 2 years time after copping a beating and then I'll give it my seal of approval.

young nancy boys.... lawrence you obviously havent seen my reels, anyone interested in buying a sol should know they arent orange once the paints scratched off and that daiwa theorys are black underneath the silver paint
i only know of one "young nancy boy" with airitys in the sock draw and it isnt me
hence my worry about treated magnesium reels and scratching the coating off
i have no doubt of the toughness of capricorns, i have brads old theory and its a similiar reel and is very tough, i already have reliable tough reel, now i want something fancy

Nothing wrong with those stradics lozza. Mine has been sent to the muddy depths of the maribyrnong and its still running strong and smooth.

They're impervious to pain.

I bet I can guess who's Airity sleeps in the sock draw.

Brads old Theory? - aaahhhh - so you're the sucker that ended up with it. I personally packed it with sand before he sold it If you like the Theory you should try one without the grit

Be careful, you are about to enter the most dangerous phase of your tackle purchasing life - Its referred to as the "Bower Bird Phase"

OOH - its so shiney - Ooouuu look at the beautiful colours - I read in a magazine it had 14 ball bearings instead of 13

Trust me - the same gear you caught stuff on yesterday will get them tommorrow. Just coz your skills improve over time doesnt mean its due to that new rod or reel .

Yeh its a bit of a trade off - as long as you catch bugger all with them - the stradics will survive the odd dunking

ooooh burn
haha as for the "bower bird stage" ive always been in it, just never had the cash to do anything about it. he who dies with the most toys wins
your little speech makes sense lozza, it might be wise to spend a little less cash on something a little less shiny like a daiwa cy 1500 or tierra as we all know plastic doesnt rust
