New Braid

Wanna try some new braid, ive been using Fireline, Technics Spectra and suffix and just cant find something i like atm. Im prepared to go up in price now as i tended to stay around the $25 mark for braid but theres a few more out now that are more expensive and i hope better.

I want something that doesnt wind knot, and feels soft and doesnt feel like cheap plastic crap like fireline also holds knots well. Im leaning towards either the new TD braid or the new Nitlon or FINS. Need some advice on all these 3 so i can make up my mind. I mean i brought some brand new 4lb fireline the other day and it feels like mono it was that plasticy it was just bunching up of the spool and no it wasnt to full, ive had it with berkely fireline, its time for a change!!

Whats your opinions on a good braid that wont let me down??

Rossco lm not sure what this dye you keep refering too in Fins.lve been using it for around a year now and have never had any residue leach from my PRT.Both green and yellow.
lve used alot of Fins PRT braids now and they all have done a great job with no fluffy or rsidue release.l for one cant recommend this braid enough. As for fluff up's most these days are caused due to lay of line on some reel's and poor casting technique.
Finns PRT all the way for me.

Steve

Oh and will never use Nitlon PE again as stated in a previous post for my own reason's.Snapping like cotton on 3 occasion's.May well have been a bad batch but it got it's chance and failed for me.lf it doesnt work straight out of the box then lm moving on .

Rossco

From both mine and Scooter's simultaneous posts l can only assume you have some strange or cheaper version of line.
Very perculiar...

My bad!!

Ah....My mistake, actually I WAS thinking of Tuff line Xp....My bad...Leaves yellow 'dust' on everything!.......

I'm using 4lb Fins and Td love both...... I do find the orange TD a little more visible though.

Nitlon..... I still have it on my spare Straddie spool, used it quite a bit like during SSNS1 and haven't had any weird failures...yet....

Unquote.

Which Fireline are you referring to? Mine doesn't feel like cheap plastic crap at all. Excellent knots and very supple, love this stuff.

Cheers,
Alex

I will jump in with Steve and Scotty and give my vote for fins, not as thin as some others but everything else about it is first class. Does not fluff up, casts great and I haven't had a wind knot since I started using it about 8 months ago. I haven't used the TD so I can't comment on it. I will never use Suffix matrix pro again, winds knots, fluffs up and breaks, absolute crapola!!

ive recently started using the orange TD braid and am fairly happy with it, it handles and casts really well.
i have noticed however that it seems to break alot easier than other 4lb braids, it can be broken with your hands whereas its almost impossible to snap 4lb fireline with your hands.
i think it might break at 4lb as its rated, unlike other braids that break well above their quoted line class. its landed a lot of fish but id be happier using 6lb for the added strength
anyone else had the same problem or have i got a dud batch?
ive always been happy with fireline but decided to try something else for a change

Mine's been good to me so far (6 months) never had a wind knot, unexpected breakage or problems with it fluffing up.

i do alot of reading at USA bass forums and most of them recomened sufix performace braid. These guys are nuts with there fishing. One guy did a huge write up on it using some hi-tech microscope to measure exactly how thin it is.

Performance braid is proabably the roundest braid on the market and ties perfect knots.

The most important thing for me in a line is knowing i can trust my knots. Somthing i could never do with fireline.

I have had the performance braid for about 3 months now and wouldnt recomend anything else.

For one, fireline is not plastic. Now I've heard stupid statements and uneducated ones, but that's a new one. Two, it's not crap. Three, no problems with knots. It's the tier. However, I will say sometimes you can end up with a bad batch of line and doesn't matter what you do, knots break....... Solution, take it back. All lines go through this at some point. Fourth, fireline is not a braid!

Wind knots!? No matter what line you use, they will wind knot at times..... depending on how you look after it and obviously your casting technique. I've come across many guys who aren't too bad a caster, but get wind knots cos they have some technical flaws, so to speak. Just like a golf swing.

Is casting that technical...... erm..... yes! But many don't see it that way.

Otherwise, there's IGFA class Castaway braid which is a top class line. And being IGFA class will break at it's recommended breaking strain.
