Quinny 385 explorer decks

Hi all

This is my first post, great site you have here.

I have just picked up a new Quintrex 385 explorer and am keen to get started on fitting it out.

At the moment i am in the planning stage for the frame work for front, middle and rear decks. The frame will be aluminium and welded in

I am hoping a few people on here have the same hull and have done all this before. Im looking for pictures if possible on how youve arranged the frame work. Particularly for the rear deck.

I will get some photos up soon

Cheers

To save some money have you thought about riveting the frame in.

I'm interested if anyone has done this or has any ACTUAL knowledge of if this is a good or bad idea

And yeah welcome

Thanks for the replies. I saw that thread fishalicious, has some good photos. I was hoping for explorer pics as the hull is different. Yes, i want to copy someone elses ideas.

Rod, i personally wouldnt rivet. Feels bodgy and shortcut-like to me.

I was actually thinking that Ali boats are desigend to flex. And when you weld extra ribs and deck supports you do put alot of tension on the boat causing to cracking. I just thought that rivots would allow for some flex still

?????

hi Rod

I wouldnt know mate. I always assumed boat manufacturers, like quintrex would weld supports in for their decks.

I cant imagine a manufacturer would jeopardise the integrity of their boats?

Rivets would be a lot bloody easier!

Ok, im having a bit of trouble designing the frame.

originally i wanted to tie the frame in with the existing ribs. I figured that way it would still allow for movement in the hull. But that is going to be impossible. Especially for the rear deck.

So my question is, Is it ok to weld angle onto the transom and seats? Is it too thin to weld to? Will a strip of angle welded to the transom and seat be enough to support my weight without sagging/cracking?

How have other people gone about welding in framework without cracking issues down the track?

Sorry for all the questions.

cheers
Tim
