How to straigtening fluorocarbon

Gees it's different fishing with fluorocarbon instead of braid. I loaded my flurocarbon on the reel and when I cast, the line comes out in curls unlike braid where it tends to come out straight. Need to get rid of it's memory. Is there anyway of straighening this?

And I think it seems to cause more line tangles so may have to use it for HBs instead of SPs fishing.

Any opinions and advise?

Oh dear, I don't see how you could do that easily...With fly-lines, we pull them out, stretch them, and wind them back on. With god knows how many metres of fluorocarbon, that might be a little difficult...Essentially, fluocarbon should fish like a stiff mono, which would do exactly what you said it does...I really can't think of an easy solution, sorry. Best thing I reckon you could do is get a relatively light poundage, and just hope that the line isn't thick enough to hold that memory when a lure pulls it taut...

Carol

I could be very wrong here but I believe that there is specific "casting" flourocarbons. Linesystems do one, I have seen it at Anglers Anonymous in Canning Vale, I was tempted to get the 3lb for flats fishing. I think what you have spooled is designed to be leader material and therefore you will always have trouble. I could be wrong??

I always thought that fluorocarbon retained its line memory more-so than braid and mono, thus why its an excellent leader but has its drawbacks as a primary line system although there are some out there that have been ablke to over-come this memory issue?

And what owen said is spot on - I let out over 50-100m of line, tie one end to a post and stretch it out straight to remove the line memory before I go fly fishing.

yeah there are specific flourocarbons for putting straight through, if your not happy with what youve got now maybe put that back on its spool and keep it for leader and buy a specific casting flouro, they seem to be alot more limp and dont hold as much memory.
cheers

G'day Carol,
This little piece of information is not mine. I read it off a forum a few weeks back now. Can't remember who posted it but they had the same problem as you, don't know if they were using Flurocarbon though.

Anyway, grab yourself a hefty sinker. Go to your nearest jetty or park. Jetty would probbably be better because of the height, be able to cast further.
Give it a nice big cast, put the line between your fingers and wind onto the spool nice and tightly. Repeat untill your line is nice and strait.
I did this myself, it worked a treat.

Hope this helps, as I said the information above isn't my own. I read it from a post. They can take credit for it if it helps you out or not.

Nugget.

But doesnt it just re-coil while it's stored on the spool?

you can't change the chemical composition of fishing line. Fluorocarbon was NEVER meant to be used as a main line. The true properties which makes it fluorocarbon will not allow this. If a company says the you can use fluorocarbon as a main line then its only another way to sell fishing line.

Don't stretch it you will only damage it, better take it off and use it for leader and stick with braid or leave your braid on and use a 15 foot fluorocarbon leader.

I'm with madaff

I just spooled up with mono for flats fishing

It's cheaper near invisible and probably behaves a little better than fluro. More stretch of course is the drawback

sunline machine gun cast the ONLY fluro for casting. You can use strait fluro the bass guys use it all the time but you have to use specific fluro. Sunline is the main line used buy all the bass guys along with Yozuri hybrib. Yozuri is alot cheaper but it is a copolemer meaning its mono mixed with fluro carbon. This line is AMAZING a use it as leader now for all my heaveir gear (Over 15lb) it is near invisibe and has great abraision restitince.
Another interesting thing that the bass guys are finding is the clearer the fluro the easier it is for fish to see. Although light doesnt travel through it, it reflects light making is more vissible than a smoke coloured fluro. More food for thought.

Bass Hard

"No longer do anglers need to put up with thick, springy high memory and hard to manage fluorocarbons. Bass Hard 100% new formula fluorocarbon main line is pure fluorocarbon, features include, low memory, fast sinking, high knot strength, UV proof, low visibility , high sensibility, low stretch, nil water absorption, supple and easy cast." .....Linesystems promotional material.

Me thinks this line requires a little more casting weight than 1/16th oz, for it to show its true value, I dare say that its abrasion resistance is great also. But don't expect it to perform like a 6lb braid with light weight lures, not what it was designed for?
