I dont see what all the fuss is about, $25K US equates to about $33Aus, for that money you could get a nice little 480 Hornet package with a 75 on the back. You may have to pay a bit extra for decent sounders though.

I love the setup of the trailer as well. Lots of storage and looks cool
I'l be curious to know how much it would cost to set the trailer up in a similar way.

Not sure mate. There is a Triton dealer on the East Coast. $67,000US there is a fair wack though.

Sorry Brad, but I don't agree. I think our hull designs, in ali at least, is all as good as what I have tested in US and Oz boats. Where I think we lose out is in fitout.
You may have got a good deal, but if the price and finish on the one at the boat show is any indication. They are probably behind us in design.

Sorry Bear don't agree at all. I'll stand my ground on this subject and won't back away from what I am about to write.
I have a marine industry and metal trades background to support my position. I've done my research on boats best suited to Estury Lure and Soft Plastic fishing. Most Aussie tinnies (Modern Quintrex lead this one) are made to a price and are a cheap arse price at that! Pitty they do not pass the cost saving onto the customer. They do not listen to the customers wants, needs or concerns. They don't even want to know you if you have a second hand boat! All, most all manufactures in Aust are interested in is pumping out cheap arse alloy boats for maximum profit. Most modern Aussie alloy boats are not built to last. Manufactures are not interested in anything else as it isn't in their best interest ! If they build boats that lasts they then stiffle their own market. In saying this, there is only one decent Aussie built boatalloy on the market today is the New Makocraft. I recently drooled over Shane Dysons Ship and it is a well built sweet ride. To build trailer and sign write it as shown in your post would easily add $10,000.00 to initial purchase price, also you wouldn't be able to drop it down the ramp as a drive on/off as the boxes would be submersed. I've got mates with race boats with similar set ups and they have a dolly trailer inside the beast trailer. |

Mick, no personal dig intended mate. The two are very different boats and might be used for different purposes.
Hey bear. I wont go into it as obviously the number of hornets that we have in our fleet is a good incdication that aussie ally boats are doing the job and doing it well. I agree that its the features available on the US boats that come standard make them a more attractive option. Looking at aussie boats it was going to cost extra to get wells, electrics, rod lockers. Then things like 2" plate hulls, trailer design and construction, little electronic gadgets like the tilt switch at the bow and the in built charger have made things so much easier to use the US boats. Price wise i think you will find there wont be too much difference if you work your magic in the haggling stakes. I believe its a unique situation as im obviously biased. I have been out with at least one aussie boat owner that i remember and he was amazed at it. When it comes to design, well there are two different conditions to use them in. I believe aussie boats eg hornets are going to be better for going out in the ocean in. My main arguement will be with boat height. The lower sides of the tracker will be less of a sail for wind to catch. We saw how well Chris Elliots and Ando's boats handled walpole when some of us got wet. Although they had speed to their side, surely the hull design was a big plus. Im not sure about the triton ally boat range, but Trackers offer models in similar shapes as nitros so i see no reason why things would differ too much. Fiberglass wise i will agree for sure that we can match the US boats. The Haines Hunter Prostrike is a perfect example of this. As long as we are all on the water doing what we do best, i dont believe it matters in regard to how we get out there. Im sure you will agree. See you tomorrow |

Shipcat, you've just agreed with one comment and disagreed in another. I think there are other ali builders in this country worth looking at. Makocraft are one for sure, but we have many smaller builders that may not have the volume, but they sure do have the quality.
As for higher sides etc, maybe, but I like the extra room for things other than just breaming and at rest they are a much nicer boat to be in. JMO. I've had it blow up at Walpole too many times to be convinced that a pure bass boat is the way to go. Part of the reason I like the bay style boats.
