The Worst Australian 30/8/2006

hahaha our brilliant journalists at it again...

Check out the pic of the diver with prawns he "dived" for in the first few pages of todays paper.

Only thing he dived for was his wallet when he bought them from the supermarket.

hahaha yeah maybe the swan's volcanic now craig...lol

On that note...does anyone else find it annoying that there seems to be a clear link between govt intentions/desires and the reporting that goes on in The West?

Take the increase in tax on gambling revenue in order to fund the rejuvination of the Swan (don't ge me wrong I'm glad this is happening). All of a sudden there is an entire page in the paper discussing the Swan's demise. Somebody trying to sway public opinion there way.

Then there is the anti motorcycle/hoon rampage that the Govt is on. How convenient that the West runs article after article about "bad" motorcyclists whenever the Govt needs public opinion on their side to change laws etc etc.

I'm glad we are not restricted to purchasing the rubbish journalism that this state feeds us...thank goodness for the eastern states newspapers.

I stand corrected

In my defence though...they look cooked...and a stack of people who called into radio stations and called the paper were also fooled.

Thumbs down Dragged

Dragged the estuary down here @ Mandurah with a prawn net a few times last season and after about 5 hauls, didn't get many more than whats on the plate in that photo!

Talk about hard work for little result!

Figured that it might just be wrong moon bad luck etc etc so kept trying on other nights........

Nup - the prawns just ain't here like they used to be!

Probably try again this season - but figure we must be doing something wrong! Used to get a baby bath full at east street in maylands 30 years ago when I was a teengaer and dragged the net and we ain't doing anything different now except we can't get 2 inches covering the bottom of a 2 gal bucket after 5 or 6 good hauls with the net!

What we do get - is wheelbarrow fulls of blowies - now I'f I could just find a good use for them - like 12 V blender or butchers mincer on the gunnel of the boat for burley maybe!
(Kidding they arepart of the eco system so we throw em back alive!)

I guess the water quality while maybe it's improved in the estuary with the cut hasn't come back to what it once was...
In fact I suspect the estuary has become more of a marine embayement in summer with virtually just ocean water present since with these years of low rainfall there doesn't seem to be any inflow of river water into the estuary over summer.

Pretty soon with reef balls etc maybe it'lll be like offshore fishing in the Estuary! Few crays maybe instead a the blue manna's!

Who knows the way things are changing!

Cheers!
