Just wondering (and this isn't a slight against anyone or the products) what a $30 jig will do that the $3 - $10 jigs don't?

For me personally, I will keep using the cheap ones, dipping them in tuna oil or scent. They do the job for me, but then I only use them for catching bottle squid for live bait - none of these monster calamari.

Those jigs kick butt mate! Id pay $30 to bag out on squid everytime In the places I fish for them imitations just dont do it!

I have used these jigs a few times. They have a great action. Good colours to!

Try them at night. Charge up the glow-in-the-dark with a torch every few casts

Uh...What's a good action on a squid jig, if you'll excuse my ignorance? I don't see why they wouldn't be as fussy as any of the more glamorous animals we chase, but now you've got me curious...

Owen i assume what Nath means by a good action is sitting straight( weight at the bottom) with nose down. When you compare hyabusa, egilee,yo zuri etc(the top brands, that you pay good $$ for) with the cheapies (under $5) you will see the cheap ones roll, dont sit stright and when left just sit right on the seabed as opposed to an even tail up action of the better brands.
Ducks,I think when chasing southern calamari down here in PPB you would notice a huge difference when using the expensive jigs opposed to the bargain bin ones. For example the other night i was at queenscliff, which when its happening is one of the best spots in vic.I was using an egilee and my mat a hyabusa in 2 hours i had 8 my mate 5 while the tally for the 8 other blokes on the pier was a combined total of 2.In this situation the only separating factor i can see was the jigs with about 1/3 of the guys using baited jigs and the other 2/3 using the cheapies.
Cheers.

Thanks for the information Bream Addict. I kinda just figured if the little squid hit anything than the big squid probably would too.
I'll get Nath to put me onto some big calamari jobs when I'm in VIC.
Oh wait, the mongrel is going to NSW that week!

Hey boyz just to report back on my trip last nite!!!

We had arrived at around 3:30am awaiting for action to commence and it did! within 10mins my bro was on to the first squid.

Signs of many squid being caught on the jetty as well (SEE PICS)

So from fishing until 3:30am till 9:00am we just about had enough and headed home our catch was

14 squid

12 crabs

24 tommies

couple leather jackets and W/Whiting

As for the sqiud jag that was bought it proved not bad for its first use! only catching 2 of the 14 squid but i am still happy with how it swims etc.....

Hope u like the pics

regards Nino
