Graphite Help

Hey Guys.
Has anyone here had problems with Graphite two piece rods sticking together. I can't get my two pieces seperated. I know the rod between the legs and knees trick, but my legs are weak as piss due to my broken leg incident! What should i do, and are there any specific ways when dealing with graphite?

I have a custom made two peice thunder rod and when i put it together it sticks as well. i think it is just the way there made. factory made rods are all perfect, were as customs have a few minor problems and sticking together is one of them. i wonder too if it can be fixed.

Oil from the side of your nose is meant to be a good lube for rod ferrules.
On the one that repeatedly sticks I might be inclined to try some metal polish to lap the fit a bit better, sounds like there might be a high spot or something that makes it grab.
A bit of Brasso or Autosol or even a white toothpaste and some time spent twisting the two halves together lightly with a smear of the metal polish on them might get a better fit that will provide a firm connection without excessive pressure that could cause the joint to stick.

I recently had this problem with my old fenwick fly rod which was custom built about 25 years ago when carbon first hit the scene. I think there is even a name for when synthetics bind like that, its plastics hysterisus or something like that.

I used a hair dryer to gently heat the outer section then pulled like buggery. Gentle heat again and pull again and so on etc. It eventually came apart and I do the old rubb on the scone to put some scalp grease on it.

Come to think of it, I have never had the problem with a factory carbon, but have several old fenwicks which do that sometimes. Perhaps the suggestion of lapping in the other posts is a good idea.

I wonder if lead powder would work? It works for keys when they are stuck, who knows!

I forgot to say: What ever you do don't twist the rod as you pull! Big damage can result.

I really hope you mean graphite powder (as in pencil lead which isn't lead at all, but a slippery form of carbon). Lead is a nasty poison, graphite powder would be an ok lube, but it is messy.

I DID MEAN GRAPHITE POWDER, LIKE IN LEAD PENCILS
MAYBE RUBBING A PENCIL OVER THE PARTS.......
I HAVE NO IDEA

Once you separate the 2 halves use candle wax to ensure a non slip fit and no problems with separating the halves again in the future
