fire line for light sp setup

Guys i finally went out and bout some fireline, i got 6lb 2.7kg's?
is that about right for sp fishing. I have a 2-5(i think) graphite rod 6'

how should i rig it now, i'll 6lb mono as backing, then the fireline then some mono leader?

or maybe 9lb mono backing knowing the fireline is stronger than rated?

how do i use a leader of mono? a metre of line then the sp?

do i use a swivel to join the fireline to the leader (making it easy to change the lure/leader when wanted or not?

thanks for the advise

still yet to land anything worthwile on the SP (throw some money at the problem might fix it )

hey sandworm

there is no general rule of thumb when it comes to leaders and leader rigging- some prefer to tie a double uni knot to connect hte f line to the leader where as i prefer a bimini and an albright knot- just personal preference.

i wouldnt limit yourself to just one type of leader- if you are fishing the flats you can generally get away with a lighter leader which is less spookey for the fish and hopefully results in more hookups 4-6lb is standard for this. but when you are fishing structure you generally have to go a little heavier, i like to use 8-10lb for this.

i would also recommend using about 2m of leader as well- again it all depends on how spooky the fish are.

The backing is of little significance, just fills your spool correctly to the lip so there is less chance of tangles etc.
I use a double uni knot to join the fireline to the leader, which has never broken at the knot
I use 8 lb leader, although you need to use what suits the terrain, I use a loop knot to tie the SP to my leader. I dont use a swivel, as this is more than likely going to spook the fish.
I normally use at least a rods length of leader, usually a bit longer. And bingo your away giving yourself every possible chance!
Good Luck

as the knot is always running through the runners does it wear the knot or ad resistance to a cast by the knot alwast running through the guides?

most likly a silly question but i thought i'll ask.

Going to fill the rod tonight when i leave work (15 min) *grin*
