Which carpet
Hi guys, i posted on monday how to glue carpet on marine ply.I have a dilemma, i bought 5m of marine carpet which has a ridged tough bottom and it seems it would be quite difficult to wrap the carpet arround the hatches and floor.A friend has suggested that i should that the carpet back and buy a flexible synthetic wool like material which is easier to work with, but it is alot thinner and does not look as durable as the marine carpet.
Does any one know about the two different types of carpet and advise me one which is better. |

hi Andrico,
I did my own carpet when I decked out my horney 435 (I think it's horney), obviously you need something able to withstand salt and traffic and UV, so the ultra cheap thin stuff is not an option. I looked at my local boat place, they had all the marine stuff, but they also pointed me in the direction of the local outfitter who does all their cushion and carpet work, which would be my advice to you. The guys in the outfitters will tell you all you need to know about the ins and outs, ask them a few questions and they might give you some handy tips. What the guy offered me in Bunbury was all of this plus I took my own can in and he filled it for me from his big drum of contact cement, at less than half the price of the cheapest price I could find elsewhere.............it's a big help to have cash, needless to say, thats why I didn't say it. Cheers,Craig. |
