snapped rod tip

g'day fellow breamers,

I snuck out for a quick fish this arvo when I should have been at uni, and course received my karmic payback in the form of a pelican almmost spooling me, and to finish the day off, a snapped rod tip.

It (6'8" rack raider)has snapped just above the last guide before the tip. I am thinking of keeping it to use as a light throwaround for whiting, herring etc, and was just wondering if anyone has any tips(pardon the pun) on how to fix this reasonably well, or whether due to structural weakness it would be better to just cut it off cleanly at the guide, and just deal with the loss of sensitivity.

cheers
Mick

My suggestion would be cut a few mm's off the end, so the tip of the rod is even, get rid of that last guide, and glue a tip on.

You could even try using the original tip, but obviously check if it will fit over the part of the rod where you want to re-glue it.

I don't think there's much you could do in terms of putting the two pieces together... IMO they wouldn't hold very well, and it just wouldn't be a worthwhile process.

Is the snap around the area that I have indicated on the picture? If so, my suggestion above stands

Cheers

Hi Cambo

Same happened to mine except mine was a dirt cheap rod. Only cost me $10 to get it fixed at a tackle store.

Cheers LR

thanks LR, i think it might be ten bucks well spent, knowing my current luck i'd glue the tip on crooked anyway

cheers

Mate, it might be worth trying to take it back to wherever you got it, they might swap the top half or sell you another top for a discounted price.

Worth a try anyway.

g'day Ben

that would be a very good suggestion, except...the rod is a one-piece
Think ill just have to treat it as a learning experience and be more careful next time ! Each time i look at my strangely misproportioned rod ill be reminded anyway
On the other hand its a good excuse to get a new rod

cheers
Mick

if you do decide to glue a tip on yourself, use hot glue stick. Don't use other glues. With this type of glue, if you need to change it or it is on crooked, you can heat it up with a lighter and manoeuvre it as such.

Not knowing where the break is, you can also get a tip end which can be fixed securely to the end of the rod to give it back some of the length and sensitivity.

Your tackle store should know.

cheers Kami, i'll go into my local tackle store tommorrow and check out my options, the lack of sensitvity with a shortened rod was what I was worried about.(especially considering the 6'8 is a little stiff anyway)

cheers
Mick
