Miller butt weights
Miller lovers,
how do you adjust the butt weights on your rods? I got a finesse with a rubber fuji butt cap but can't figure out how to get it off to get at the weights. |

The cover is a little tricky to get off. I just use something sharp to put in the join and pry it off. It's hard to explain but if you put a knife or something similar on edge, not with the point, in the slit where the butt cap ends, you can just twist the knife and the cap should slide off. Once the cap is off there is just a screw that holds the three butt weights in. You just undo the screw and then choose how many of the weights you want to put back on and screw it back in. It's pretty self explanitory once you get the cap off.
Cheers, Dror

Hi Panger
you can get the cap off just like Dror said, I remove mine by squeezing it between my index finger and thumb. It will oval up then you can flip that edge off to reveal the weights. The weights are there to maximise the feel from the blank whilst balancing the rod. I have one weight or none in my HB rods because I tend to fish them tip down. My SP rods will have 2 or more weights to make them balance or bias towards the butt because I am fishing tip up. The lures also have little or no weight so it gives me better feel does this make sense? If you are doubtful then I suggest you take your favoured lure, you must have at least one that you chuck as 1st choice and start with no weight in the butt. Fish it for a while then add a weight and fish it. Continue doing this until you have all three weights in the butt. Take note as to what you prefer and run with that setup. |

JP did a much better job of explaining it. The experiment is worth doing. It is amazing how much a small weight can change the way the rod feels.

a quick one!
if you desire you can just balance the rod to the reel so it has neutral balance ie: it will balance on one finger just in front of the reel arm attached to the reel seat. Then just go and fish, no need to get too hung up on it. |
