Hey there!

I've got my SOL2500 matched up to a Nitro 7" Powerbream, and i'm loving it! Everything from 2kg PPB salmon to kilo+ bream, and big pinkies

I've got it loaded with 8lb XDS Fireline, but any braided line in the 6-8lb region would be perfect on it.

Nice light tip, but plenty of power in the back end. Very light, alconite fuji guides.

They retail for about $300...

Cheers

Hi,

Thanks for the fast reply, unfortuanally i don't have that much money to spend on fishing rod, and i don't want to at this stage....but definely will be in the future once i learn more.
Anyway i thinking of getting one the budget rod somewhere in the low $100, i am not sure which length or line weight will be suitable.
I been thinking about Berkly Dropshot, Shimano Rack Raider, Daiwa Hearland to name a fews....but really there are too many choices out there and it's hard to choice.

I've got both the Berkley DS in 6'6" and 7'2" and the Rack Raider 6'8"2piece, and love them to bits.

Best thing to do... take your reel to the shop, put it on a rod, and see if it matches it well. Have a play around with all the rods, ask a staff member to load it up for you. For around a $100 you can't go with either. Haven't used the Heartland before, but I hear they're great rods. So just have a play with it and make up your mind from there...

Line class for the rod.. you probably don't want to go any more than 2-4kg... Any more is overkill. (The Rack Raider is 2-5 I think, it's a little bit stiff, but still a great stick)

Cheers

Regarding to line weight...let say i got 2-4 rather then 2-5....is that mean if there is a BIG fish, i most likely to snap the rod???

Sorry i am new to fishing so please forgive me for asking some silly Q's!

Don't be silly mate, we are all here to learn

If you get a big fish on, there is no reason that you can't land it...As long as your reel is set up well, and your drag is smooth, then you can wear the fish out, and eventually bring it in.

Check out the "Brag Board", and see some of the awesome fish people catch on their bream gear. This thread for example.. http://www.breammaster.com/forum/sho...threadid=14278

These guys are catching mulloway on their 1-3kg Black Diamond Rods...

Some simple rules to follow with graphite rods... Don't "high stick them" That is don't bend the rod at an "un-natural" angle so to speak... They should be loaded up over a long curve, not a short curve a-la Ugly Stick Advertisement... (It's a bit hard to explain this one, it's easier to show it, maybe someone else can explain this a bit better, im a bit brain dead at the moment).

Try not to knock the rod about in the boat or on rocks etc... If you get some knicks in the graphite, they can become weak spots, and if you're onto a good fish, and it's really testing the rod, there's a chance the rod could break at the spot... Unlikely but it happens more than you think, so just look after it well, and it'll look after you.

A lot of things like setting up your reel with line/fireline/mono backing/leader line is covered in other threads... So use the search function and i'm sure you'll find what you are looking for. If there's something that you can't find, just post up a thread and we'll be happy to help.

Cheers

rods

hey i would go the sic stick or the sic stick pro they retail from 150 to 200 dollars. i have a rack raider but they tend to be very britle mine snaped twice in 5 trips so i traded it for a sic stick. mine is a 6'6 model and i'v matched it with my twin power 2500 with 6 pound fireline, great for HB.

Do you look after your things? Or do they bash around inside the boat? They shouldn't just "snap" unless you like high-sticking in the oyster racks...

Hi guys, i went to my local tackle store to check out some rods today, especially Berkley DS rod....for me it's a bit too heavy. The Daiwa Procaster (short butted) rod...can't really remember the model but it feel really good and the rod itself is really tiny and light as well.

I am really into lighter fishing gears, currently i got 3 reels, Daiwa SOL 2500, Penn 4300SS, Shimano Symetre 2500, as well as Shimano BTR 4500B use for beach/surf fishing.

Cheers
