G'day I'm the Newb.
I have 'another' question. What do you prefer when bream fishing?. 4lb Fire Line or 6lb Fire Line? as the main line that is. And I need a simple knot for joining leaders. That 'Uni Knot' is bloody hard... Cheers.

go 4lb fireline mate..... and for leader use 6lb flurocarbon easy and simple if u were like me i have a different pound leader for every situation, i prefer nitlon leader 3,4,5 and 7 lb.... the double uni is the easiest knot mate try and do an improved albright its what i use #$&@#$&@#$&@#$&@s all over the double uni even though you can rely on the uni.....improved albright gives you 100% normal albright about 85% and the double uni gives of memory 70% of the lines breaking strain......

If it's purely for breaming, then 4lb should be fine, but if you want an all round sort of line ie. chasing bream, pinkies, salmon, flatties etc... go the 6lb. There is not a lot of difference in diameter so you'll be fine either way.
As for the uni knot, it's probably the easiest and the strongest knot for joining the two. If you are having difficulties, go into your local tackle shop, and ask them to show you how to tie it. Once you've done it a couple of times it's easy. Cheers |

I used 4lb fireline, more than enough grunt for bream. However if you got the dollars you can get a more pricey line with a smaller diametre(bah SP? put a spell checker in the forums bear
) but higher breaking point. The double uni is pretty easy, however since watching Adam's berkley DVD the 5 turn surgeons knot is cool. But the double uni in crappy conditions, high wind and waves, is a great knot. You just need to practice, maybe geta knots book. |

no problems as i say double uni can be a good knot but try tieing a thinker line with a thinner gauge line with a double uni will not work at all, thats when the albright comes into its own as i mean its only bream soo u should be fine

The easiest thing might be try and head out with someone in your area. Best way to learn is to fish with someone, and alot of people have more than 1 rod so might be able to test drive other peoples set ups.

Quote from Jeff Wilsons complete book of fishing knots about the Albright Knot:
while the albright is excellent for many applications it is not a particularly good shock leader knot because it tends to self destruct with continued casting because of impact through the runners..... i'll stick with the Uni it's served me well cheers chuck
