G'day to all who enter this forum.
I have only one question today. Is it best to use "Mono" line as a leader or "Fire Line". Some people say Mono and some say Fire Line. I want to know what you'r opinion is on this. I want to know if it is true, that mono line can be used as a shock absorber, as that it can stretch. Taking most of the strain instead of you'r 4- 6lb Fire Line. It would save me alot of money also, seeing as that I can probbably buy 8lb Jarvis Walker Forest Green, low visibility line for about $2,50c. Cheers, Minnow:.

Fireline is a braid (Unless I've missed a leader called that)
Flurocarbon for a leader - shock absorbing and anti-abrasion Mono instead of braid perhaps - some use mono on occaisions as a mainline HTH |

Mate out of the two, use mono leader as its less visible under water. You can easily pick braid when its tied to a lure. Most fish will too.
If you can, get flourocarbon leader. It isnt overly cheap at about $20 for 100m for an average brand. I use a product called nitlon which has been really good. Other brands include yamatoyo, seaguar and vanish. You will need to tie a rods length of it on at a time and i have caught fish on 30cm of leader left. Saying that i usually tie on a 3-4m leader which lasts longer in snaggy areas. Tying a leader to braid takes valuable fishing time so i find it more practical. Underwater, flourocarbon is practically invisible to everything. Obviously then mono comes second, then braid last. Check through the online store under the lines section and check out what is available. |

The uni to uni knot is easiest for joining the two together.
http://www.fishnet.com.au/library/kn...doubleuni.html Then you use the standard half blood to tie onto a jighead and a leftys loop knot or a clip to tie onto a hardbody. http://www.fishnet.com.au/library/kn...halfblood.html http://www.fishplatypus.com.au/leftysloop.htm |

Just to add to what Brad said...
When you're spooling up your reel with fireline, first wind on a layer of mono as "backing" then attach the fireline to it using a double uni knot. The reason you need backing is so that the fireline doesn't slip on the spool. The job of the mono is to lock it in place, so it doesn't move. Then once you've filled up your spool with fireline, just tie on a flurocarbon leader, and you're set to go. Cheers |

No I'm Sorry I didn't explain better - lucky there's people like Brad willing (and kidless) to type a bit more
Also without trying to fob you off - use the search function (at the top right) on terms such as braid, flurocarbon and monofilament. There are heaps of threads dealing with each. |
