Joining 2 firelines together .... What knot?

Well my reel needs topping up and I have been topping up the backing instead. However each time I cast out, it now reaches the backing. So I have been joining 2 firelines together but when casting out the knot always gets caught on the rod guides or the line gets caught on the knot as the line spins out. I have been using the double uni and the knot is rather big.

Anyone here joins several firelines together? What knots do you use? Blood knot, albright?

Forget the concept of joining fireline. Buy a new spool and start from scratch. The reason is fundermental - your fireline is now only as strong as any knot you have used used to tie the lengths together ie it will be no where near the strength of what a continuous length of fireline would be. Plus the knot running through your guides problem.

You would hate to bust off on a kicker at this knot no?

I agree with buying new fireline. However if you still want to use a knot, I'd try a bimini to bimini with a cats paw.

Also if the join to your new fireline is getting caught whilst casting you need to take some backing off as you havnt enough fireline on to start with, it should fix all your problems.

I have the same problem at the minute, reaching my backing during normal cast so id better go out and buy some new fireline before the hopkins comp.

Its amazing how much the lack of line effect accuracy and comfort when fishing....

Ah, a good samaritan on here just gave me a brand new spool of Platypus Super Braid! Thank you so much indeed! So, no more joining silly old firelines together! Yeeha!

PS Dear Mr Good Sammy, I need a new Graphite USA (built by Jarrad please) or even a Samurai will be ok, together with a Stradic please .... hint hint! ...2nd hand Graphite USA will be fine thanks!

Thanks again!

Sorry, I know this is a little late, but if I always use the improved allbright knot. it's strong and perfect for the job.

I dropped the double uni knot a little while back cos I always had problems with the knot breaking at the leader.

But sure, a new spool is more ideal....

It's not a bad braid dylman. I don't personally use it as I use super PE Braid by Yamatoyo. But, from the buddies I know who fish with it, it's a nice line.
