Up until recently, I fished them almost exclusively and they are very effective. The thing is - you have to fish spots or times of day that let them perform. Fortunately my home patch is full of those. But its also full of spots that hold heaps of bream that we generally ignore.

Early and late, when the bream are up against the banks, have been good for me. Chasing the shade during the middle of the day is also a good way to go. But they can be limiting when the midday sun chases the bream off the banks where they are so effective.

We have built our location choice around how each spot works when you drag an eco gear across it. That means saving some spots for the middle of the day and bombing the banks when light levels are low.

If you want to get the best out of eco's - the middle of the day is when they shine the least. Unless of course you have some spots in the shade. High tide can bring the fish up into the intertidal zone where they tend to be fairly easy coz they usually go there to feed - as oppossed to just hanging out.

Other lures that can work the depths effectively are good for the middle of the day. When we fish eco's in the middle of the day we rarely bother with spots exposed to direct sunlight. At dusk or dawn the open ares with no over head cover are well worth a shot.

If you want your ecos to perform at there optimum level be sure to give them the respect they deserve. Fish early and late and dont write them off unless you are casting well and at the right time and place.
