So the war on Iraq begins (check news.com) . Plenty of bombs dropped already. Hope it's all over quickly and as painlessly as possible.
Just hope there is a saturday for us to wake up to (for the boaters day of course )

I think it's more a case of our little jonhnny trying to go down in history as the man who stood behind George doublha, what's the U.N there for if where going to ignore them no matter what. It's more to do about the $ than deposing a dictator.

Yeah I agree
As an ex Soldier (X 2RAR GRUNT
For Bush to stand there and speak about freeing Iraq from a cruel dictator, why has it taken so long? Saddam has been killing people for years (it would be good to get rid of him) and all of a sudden America has to justify why it intends on going in there. And i once had respect for little Johnnie, now i think he's a little lick boy for that other dickhead Bush. I hope we make it till at least next week so I can have one last fish on my boat with my recently repaired KOTA before we Destroy the world and everything dies. SAD Geoff

I know i'm only young and naive!
, but i have to say that i find it a relief to know that the war has started. I know that sounds wrong, but i really feel it needs to be done. I really don't like the idea of someone like saddam havin the weapons that he deos. I know the war is really for money, but it is oin to benefit everyone in the long run. Cheaper oil, and other commodities is one upside. And Johnny standing behind the US, well i think it is more that we have similar cultures, as does Britain aswell, so i think Howard and the Majority of Australia all feel that the war was needed.Plus we owe them, remember WW2! Also, Uni is empty of Hippies!!! The more rallies the better!I don't mean to start an argument here! Dave |

Kingpin, you're not the only one who's glad it started, the stockmarket soared today. Yay for my BHP and Newscorp shares (actually, BHP closed lower, but my MIG and Jupiters are up as well - could be a new hornet in the works if this keeps up).
WW2 is one thing, but this war is pretty different to others. No clear legal basis for war here. I just hope that not too many people on either side get killed (with the exception of Saddam )James. Last edited by jimi; 20-03-2003 at 04:43 AM. |

Having said the above. I am pretty worried about the reprocussions of this war. ie), terrorism. Also my best mate has oined the army and starts training in 5 days! It only hits home when someone close is affected by something like this!

Yeah tell me about it.
I'm waiting till the peak of the war then i'm buying shares as i'm pretty sure the prices will be low. Just have to make sure the war ends soon after i buy them. Completely out of my hands. I'm glad i dont drive coz the oil prices in the short term are going to be very inflated. I did economics last year and i loved it! This will be in every economics exam in the nesxt 3 or 4 years. Supply shoch questions especially. Take note yr 12 students!!! dave |

Kingpin,
You have wisdom far exceeding your age! I was speaking today to an Iraqi woman who escaped to Aus, some of the things she told me were so horific I felt sick!!!!!! I was hoping against all hope that a peaceful solution would be found, But now it has started I too am glad! I think our Prime Ministers Intentions are Honourable and I hope history sees it that way! I'm now hoping for the Iraqi people to seize the opportunity and help rid their country of this evil! If they do, it will be a short conflict, as my client said Iraq was a beautiful place before Sadam took everything for his family!!!!!! |

While I do agree that Sadam needs to be stopped, im a bit apprehensive about the whole issue.
I recieved an Email from my Mum on Tuesday saying she was mobilising to head to Iraq. She works for Care Australia and for the last 3 years has been stationed in Myanmar (Burma) but has been pulled out to head to Iraq to help the refugees. I guess what concerns me is my mum, and other Australia civilians are heading into a hot zone because of one Americans want for oil and im not happy about it. To the point where I am now on stress/sick leave from work. Perhaps there was another way to do it but now I guess we will never know |
