Ive seen those Storms and Tsunami's, personally i reckon they are crap, id go and buy some 100 - 150mm squidgy fish or shads, in greens or golds. And jig them hard of the bottom, they have an awsome swimming motion when sinking.

As said, try find the bait, and in general the Jew will follow, Current and bait=Jew. Bridges, brite lights, warves, possable places to start. Sometimes It's a long wait with many spots tried, but when it all comes together, a pattern will become evident/ The Jewie Highway Isn't on any map, but once found, it's yours forever.

Tsunami and Storm are the standouts, if you want to spent alot o money chucking around lures as durable as dunny paper on a hook, by all means get some skwigggies.

Cheers

I caught this one under the Narrows Bridge at 2am last year. It took me a while to work out the technique (maybe 2 weeks of fishing every second night) but once I worked it out is seems so simple.

When the Mullaway are around you will know because the bait schools will spray all over the surface trying to get away for them. What I did that worked well was through the soft plastic over the bait school as it just starts to run on the surface. Let the Storm sink for a second or 2 then jerk it through the bait school pausing now and then to let it sink. This 15kg+ baby just inhaled the storm shad down to his gills.

Great thread this.... I've been curious about getting mulloway myself but somehow they remain an elusive species. Its been written that they are mainly a night time proposition and I'm wondering if that's a myth or fact. I'm not big on night time fishing so chasing after them at nihgt is out for me...

Mostly at night

I have caught them from the beaches during the day but it is a bit hit and miss. I have heard of people catching them in the middle of the day in the river but that is rare.

Unfortunately if you want to be successful with these great fish you need to put in the hours after midnight on a tide turn when fishing in the rivers or estuaries.

Good luck anyway during the day... they put up a great fight especially from the beach. The one I caught in the photo took me 45 min on Bream gear with him towing me around in a canoe.

This one I caught on the beach just on dark. Sorry about all the sand on the fish.

Would a 6-8kg rod be adequate? I wa sthinking I could use my 2-4kg Struddy, but therisk factor is high, and i think its too light for 100-150mm Squidgies etc.

PM if there are any good school jew spots close to Melbourne.

Cheers

Brad, I'll take you up on your offer... I've hooked onto 2 mulloway on plastics ever but failed to land any. Both times I wasn't targeting them at all. Just flukey hookups and surprised me no end when I saw what I was connected to before it decided to go into high gear...
