Question Abu Cardinal 500U??

Is this reel any good as a secondary reel. (Being on the 2nd rod in the boat)

Chris,
I'm sure most people would be pleased to have that reel for bream fishing. It looks good, ABU have a long established reputation for making good, serviceable gear that lasts and is well supported for parts and repairs. It is a small reel, but would probably just neatly hold a spool of Fireline.
There would be no shame at all in having that as your primary bream reel.
That and the Daiwa Samurai look to be fantastic value for money from manufaturers who are right at the top of the tree.
I think I've said it before, but I'll say it again; some people spend to much effort worrying about their gear. As long as it is working smoothly the hardware is probably less important that your line, hooks, knots and technique.

Chris,
I'm useing an Abu cardinal pro 1000 for all my bream fishing and it is doing the job just fine. All of the abu's i have used have been well made reels and i have never had a problem with one. I wouldn't have a problem with using that reel as a second outfit, cause i'd probably use it as my first.
