WA Gov Shame

Sorry to post this here, but I have to vent.

How small minded must out pollies be to think that dropping funding to Rally OZ was only going to see it move to another state. At the moment, we may lose it all together from this country.

Subaru have now announced that it will be pulling all support for ARC (Australian Rally Championship) races and teams. Just how long will it be before we see the end of Australian Rallying as we know it?

couldnt agree more Bear

allthought Subarus decisions looks more like it is from a marketing side of things and achieving all their goals in the past 10years, it is a real shame to see Rally oz moving form WA shores almost definately after 2006.

hard work put in by you, me and 2000 other voulenteers over the 3 and a half days of the event gets thrown back in our faces by the governments handling of the situation and excuses on why they dont wish to support it any more.

anyway lets look forward to the event in a weeks time. bring on the sliding Tritey

It was in the paper some time ago. The government where complaining that it only returned about 60% profit to the state. Somewhere in the vicinity of 6 or 7 million dollars.

Where as they said a anoughter event ( I think it was a Tennis thing) showed more like 200% profit from in investment. But only a measly $300 000.oo

Not 100% on the actual figures but it was a massive difference as above. Okay so the % was down but the physical dollars back to the state was massive. Sorry i try hard not to say it but i hate our local poly's they are a complete joke

If anyone has the figures post them up because it was staggering to see how they came about there decision.

So needles to say couldn't agree more with ya Bear.

Hi Rod

yeah when the issue first raised its head earlierin the year, the WA Rally community got together to try and make the government change its mind, but unfortuntely they were very steadfast in their decision.

i think now the best thing to hope for is that the event will stay in Australia somwhere and not be lost overseas

the government puts in about $10million a year, and as they correctly say by there numbers cant jsutify the return, btu the amount of TV coverage it gets to millions of people world wide its a wonder if their $$ figures encapsualtes people that come to WA for holidays 6 months after the rally. u would think the goverment would also have thoguht that if there is 5 other contries around the world vying to get a round of the WRC why on earth would they stop wanting to have it

anyway it all looks like a done deal now, sop lets jsut hope its stays in Australia after 2006

cheers

Matt

Government woes

I suppose the Lab Government are counting all their cash, trying to save where they can...so they can prop up the stupid mandurah rainline which will cost more than 10 million a year to keep running....at a loss

The even funnier thing with the railline is....lack of parking...people will drive 5km to get as close as possible to the train station, probably have to walk 30minutes to the train..coz there are no parking spots....to be dropped into the city, hope all the commuters live/work in the city....

Or have good car alarms....

Should complain though....as they got voted BACK IN....
