Understanding your sounder

I have been speaking to a couple of people over the year about electronics and understanding them. There are some guys out there that know how to set them up and what to look for. Others (myself included) have a certain amount of knowledge but lack the ability to really make them work to their true potential.
People like Dror, Sewelly and Tim Morgan know thier sounders very well and it shows with the results.
I guess what I am getting to is we should start to organise some "Get to know your sounder" days/nights. I know there are alot of industry guys that either frequent the site or are known to others that frequent the site. As I see it, it is also a good way to advertise products for the industry guys with the opportunity to sell new products etc.
Now admittedly there is alot of different sounders out there but not to many brands. Lowerance/Eagle, Hummingbird and Navman are the 3 I can think of that the majority of guys use so perhaps we could plan 3 nights over the period of a month with a rep from each company or a reseller? The off season I feel is the perfect time and it doesnt have to be done by the WABT guys as they might have a heap of work to do already. Hell if I had the names I would organise it.
If you are in WA and interested in one of these type of nights can you let me know the brand and model of sounder you have and what you think of the idea.
Also if you can think of a venue let me know as well. Once I have a few contacts etc I can start organising

I'm in the market to buy one so I reckon having a look at what a range of sounders can do would help in the purchase decision. I'm keen

Nath

I would be keen on attending a night like this. At the moment I have a base model Lowrance X51 but was thinking of upgrading in the not to distant future. Nights like this would definately help in the decision making process.

sounds good Bubba (pardon the pun).I have a humminbird matrix 37 and all i can work out is how deep the water is and how cold it is. I wanna know how to get it to show true fish archs instead of the little fish icons as i seem to think that these little fish are also sticks and other debris in the water. Can any matrix owners help out with this one? Thanks

Scott, I can guarentee that a lot of what shows up as liitle fish symbols is not fish.
When the sounder is on, press the menu button twice. This will bring up the list of menus. Scroll one to the right which is the settings menu I think. It has a little tool symbol. Scroll down one spot and it should be the fish ID setting. Turn it to off and it will stop the stupid little fish symbols swowing up. The 37 is a great sounder but you can make much more sense out of it if the fish ID is off. Hope that makes sense. I think I have confused myself.

Cheers, Dror

My mistake. It is the sonar menu, not the settings menu. Memory is not as good as I thought.

Great idea,

Would definately attend a sesion on any sounder. My preference would be for Lowerance but I think the basics to understand what I am looking at (apart from that big rock I've just run over) would be fantastic.
