Mercury Vs Yamaha 15HP

Im currently in the market for a two stroke 15 and have come to decide between the Yamaha and Merc. I'v found its much of a muchness but if anyone owns one or has had good or bad expiriences could you please let me know about them. The motors for a 10 foot ally craft so Im after a short leg but want something quiet and fuel efficient. Thanks if you can help.

I just purchased a mariner 15 on the weekend. It starts first pull hot or cold. Haven't managed to test it on the water but it should push my 3.5 punt around nicely. Mines a 1997 and picked it up for $850 including fuel tank, hose and a trolley/stand when it's off the boat. Gotta love the quokka

As I said I haven't taken it out yet. The punt is still in the building stage. Decks are about 3 days away and the livewell will take a while to build. It's a long labour intensive process

i have a 2000 model mercury 8 at the moment and it starts effortlessly first pull every time. the mercury and mariner classic are axactly the same motor but the older ones had a grey leg . the new ones only have a different cover but i will be happy with either both great engines as far as i know.

Any yamaha owners out there?
