bearing maintance
just wondering has anyone put grease on bearings, normally I just apply a drop of oil to the bearings. Jun from japantackle advices me I should put grease into the bearings to prevent rust but will it reduce the casting distance and smoothness.
Also for daiwa / shimano reels should I apply grease to the drag washers? |

not sure about the washers, but I'd keep the grease as far away from the barings as you can. Keep the greese for the gears . If they're desent barings they shouldn't need more than a bit of rocket fuel oil to prevent them from corroding. And yeah, if its for a bait caster, you should especially keep the grease away form the drag/spool barings as it will increase the resistance quite dramatically (slows the barings down).
Note of importance though: Don't put cheap oil like Dynatec or JW on your barings. It'll be fine for a while but it goes sticky. You need the 'rocket fuel' fine machine oil in my opinion. Shane. <-- no reel repair/maintance guru by any stretch of the imagination

Good machine oil only for bearings. Rocket fuel is ideal. You can out light grease on the drag washers if they are the oiled felt wet washers.
