Imitating the crab...

Purchased a pack of 2" Berkley Power Frogs the other day with the intention to make half a dozen crab imitations of them. Does anyone know what the best way to join them is? I was thinking a quick blast of heat from a cigarette lighter so there are no odd smells from glue.

Any suggestions?

After a fair bit of playing around super glue in the liquid paper style bottle with the brush is the quickest and easiest.

My first efforts were with a lighter and melting them together - lots of melted plastic and burnt fingers

The Ecogear Tanks are very impressive when done the same way, a few more dangly bits

Do they work?? You betcha - in this years tournament guide the fish in the title page went bang on a kilo

Here's a pic rigged up on a jighead:

Thanks Dave

It was your article in the ABT guide that got me interested in them

I found the best way was to heat the knife on the stove, sit it on its back (used a pocket knife with a big handle) rub each half on each side of the blade and push them together quickly. I could get through two before heating the blade again.

Was just a little worried what super glue might do to them scent wise.

I reckon I'd just soak them in a bit of ultrabite or something similar first if that was a concern. I've been very keen to have a crack at making some of those crabs myself.

What areas would you identify as being prime areas to fish these crab imitations?

yeah heating up the knife is my preferred method but just cutting it in half then holding each on the opposite sides of a candle also works quite well

Looks a lot like a "head crab" (if anyone knows what I'm referring to).

Brad, pardon my ignorance, but wouldn't it just be easier to use a DOA crab, or another of the existing crab plastics? I saw a pic of great looking one somewhere, but can't find it again.

Size is the problem Rodman - you (currently ) can't get anything under 2" so it's a 'do-it-yourself' situation.
