What can I say about our day.

Got a bag, which was our aim, but didn't manage any real size to get us into the top 10. That's life, and not the worst thing that happened to us today.

Fished the canals in town for the first time, I've really only ever fished the rivers and have been amazed at the species and numbers of fish that can now be caught in them. Our species list included bream, tarwhine, flounder, wrasse, skippy, whiting, herring, gobble guts. Pity the home owners don't think it's a community resource.

First canal we went down was great fishing wise. While not a lot of size we easily caught 40-50 fish, just insane. The highlight of the first section was to have one of the home owners accuse us of taking undersize fish. Not a bad effort considering he was 50m away Wouldn't listen to reason so decided to call us a few choice names and threatened to call fisheries. Told him to take our boat number and go right ahead, we weren't going far. Funny how canal home owners can get 2 uniformed fisheries officers out on a Sunday. Wish I could. All credit to the guys though, they took one look at the boat and gear and knew we were fishing the comps. They did the right thing, checked out bag, had a nice chat and let us go, but it didn't end there.

Let me start by saying it was only a few peanuts who did their best to ruin our day, most were very nice people who loved a chat about the way we fish and how the fish were looked after and then released, but there are a few who need professional help.

Our second incident came as we started to get a few fish from a deeper section of the canal, well away from any jetty or pylon. 1 in the well and 2 within a whisker of finishing the bag when a gentleman suggested we leave HIS fish alone. Once again, politely told him all fish would be released and we wouldn't be back. Obviously the wrong answer as the next thing we knew we had golf ball size rocks raining down around us. This continued for some time (minutes) even after we gave up and move away. Not happy with just about hitting us, he then started throwing rocks at the other jetties to try and make us leave. Details taken on this wacko, visit to the cop shop in the morning for an official complaint.

The other incidents of the day weren't as dramatic. but just because these people have money doesn't mean they are any better class of human being. That was evident with some of the language used.

Still, life moves on.

Well done to the boys on a monster bag and to all of the sponsors and anglers. Was great to see 40 odd boats at the club.

Had a wicked day out in my yak, caught plenty of fish just no real big ones unfortunatly, was just enough to take out the comp tho and big fish so i was stoked as.
Net that i won wouldve come in handy at the start as the current net i have atm is like draging a plastic bag through water.
Good to meet some new people to look forward o entering a boat comp soon.

Was a great day on the water with Ash Hazell ,Ash had 4 fish in the well and was upgradeing before 9 am (1 cm here 1 cm there, lol thats how the day went), i got the hint and put my softys away and change to what he was useing, managed an upgrade,,a giant herring and lost the bream of my lifetime at the back of the boat not to long after,Ash was pitching in with Mulloway,Flounder bycatch making things interesting ,,bit over 20 legals for the day most caught by Ash,,all fish bar none caught on ZMAN grubs,,

Great day to be out on the water,,great bunch of people we have in our tournament scene,,how good our those Tonic sunglasses ?
