The innovating just keeps on coming.
With all these hot nights we've been having, I got it in my mind to go dip netting for gars. When I checked the garage for suitable gear, it had either disintegrated or never existed in the first place ![]() Nothing a bit of on the spot innovating couldn't fix. Step one - Fix prawn net until new one can be purchased. The netting had rotted away but I did have a yabby drop net. A few cable ties and a bit of bending and I was back in business |

Step 2 - make prawn light - this was too easy - I had a diving head lamp, some cable ties, duct tape and a bit of pvc.
Then I decided to get fancy and put an ergonomic bend in the shaft to make a handle. Last edited by yellow door 1; 18-01-2016 at 11:55 AM. |

Then I thought - what happens if I need to put the light down while dealing with a fish - there were a few solutions to this problem but I already had the burner out - so I just kept bending until I made a custom fitted hook so I can put it over my shoulder.

I've only been dip netting once and I've already decided to completely re-invent the game.
Whats the one thing about dip netting that sux? - thats right - all that walking around. Why wade when you can bring the fish to you "Pied Piper" style. So here it is - "Uncle Larry's Floating Berley Cage with Brick in a Sock Anchor" The Gar Game done changed ![]() (plus the oil from the burley should put a nice slick on the water to make seeing the gars even easier) Last edited by yellow door 1; 20-01-2016 at 04:46 AM. |

And I was at a tackle store yesterday looking at their gar nets. The $20 net was too flimsy and the $40 net was too sturdy. I wanted light weight but with sturdy netting.
So I did what any innovative idea's man would do - I improvised - ..........they were also selling replacement netting so I just grabbed one of those and stitched it to my old frame. So I had the best of both worlds. Light but strong. But I wasnt stopping there - the other night the gars were keeping themselves a little out of reach - that wont happen again ![]() Grabbed the pole off my new sun umbrella and they were a perfect match. What you said has been gnawing away at me so I had to weigh them

Might just keep my eyes open for a cray float. Might have to walk even further to find a coastline likely to have one of those washed up on it

I was seconds away from pulling the trigger on this light last night.
But as I re-read the description certain things jumped out at me. Only 45 degree angle spread on the light 250 lumens and 6 batteries for 5 hours. Then I started thinking of what I could build for $75..................... ![]() Last edited by yellow door 1; 21-01-2016 at 02:59 AM. |

I've already got one of these lights and they are very well built for the price - mines lasted many hours in fresh and salt.
So if one is good...............3's got to be even gooder Last edited by yellow door 1; 21-01-2016 at 03:06 AM. |

If you believe the hype on lumen count - I'll be running 5400 lumens at full noise
![]() I"ll also be able to do better than a 45 degree beam. Plus each light has its own power source - if one light karks it - no drama |

Not sure if I'll go as far as to use the "Mine Sweeper Chains" but I'll definitely add a camera mount.
