With or without swivel
How many here cast lures without using a swivel, with line to lure or clip. Are you using a spinning reel or bait caster.

The beauty of alot of lures is they dont require a swivel - while some may helicopter through the air while casting, for some reason it doest seem to be an issue for me when using braid
Nearly all the lures I use dont twist while being retrieved. On ones that I expect twist from - Ill attach a swivel to the split ring *credit Green Hornet ![]() Last edited by yellow door 1; 14-12-2018 at 10:04 PM. |

Thanks YD 1.
![]() On estuary size lures don't bother with a swivel. If you're getting line twist using braid you've got other rigging or reel issues happening. Besides, braid is quite soft compared to mono and doesn't have the stiffness to get a swivel working, plus the weight of a swivel can destroy the action of a relatively small hard body. I use a swivel for lures like in the pic above more for something to tie to that doesn't have all the sharp bits a split ring has, rather than the function of a swivel itself.

On the issue of spinning versus Baitcaster - have a geez at this - theres no right or wrong answers unless the questions is - which is better? - then the answer is spinning

And even if you do manage to fluke a long enough cast to reach the fish - the ergonomics of modern day bait casting setups may need some tweaking

Re YD modified rod grip
When ordering rods and looking at the online range they all have that small amount of foam or cork behind the reel which narrows down to the rod. I did see some which have a cork grip the length of the butt which may or may not suite what rod application anyone would be looking for Not really sure why the manufactures needed to make them that small |
