Picked up the new yak today

first piece of business involved some pvc pipe and a heat gun

I kept it long so I could add on a verticle adjustable support bar - but based on early trials - that wont be necessary as the load is all taken very close to the car

Larry with a hobie, no fish is safe.

I added a brace between the two roof racks that I use for loading the yak

Haha

A cross bar - clever - I havent ruled that option out - do you have a pic or vid of yours.

Im currently using a beach towel to protect the roof while leaning the yak against the car - but a cross bar would offer better protection

Ive seen guys do this - but my bars dont extend to far out - so Id probably need some thing more rigid,

Something with roller would be nice - maybe a wider diameter bit of pvc pipe - cut shorter and slipped over the top of a smaller diameter one - so it could rotate as you push the yak over it - would work as a crude roller

I don't have pics handy of mine but its a length of aluminium pipe hammered flat at either end, then a bolt in the channel of the roof racks going through the pipe with a nuylock nut on top to secure it. The pipe has sagged from the weight of the yak over the years but it's been on the car for 5 or 6 years now

Ahh yeah - very nice - the word picture is enough Sounds neat and compact - thanks.

Just had a look at what Rhino Rack charges for lock-nuts, bolts and washers- they are taking the piss - might head to bunnings

just coloured in the t-track in with a grey lead pencil - then transferred it onto a bit of paper - to save me some mucking around when choosing fittings

not sure how either of these will go but.....

These thin worms are a pain to rig - so I cut up some shrink tube to protect them from the thread - then lashed them on - with a dab of super glue on the securing knots

Just waiting to see if there is a reaction and the different plastic causes the "Zman Style" plastic to melt.

Also - I was looking up Kayak nets and they are pretty exxy. I can get a $10 replacement rubber net off ali expres - and I had the steel rod and pvc in the garage - just heated it up - and put a pencil in the middle of the wires and stepped on it - a bit of araldite will lock them in place - and bang - cheap net for little stuff.
