The ones I was talking about that were a bit larger were fish caught in 2019/2020 that were in the high 40s at a time where the biggest fish I was coming across good numbers of was around 38-42cm and that seemed to line up with the growth rates I had seen in APL. First stocked in jan 2014 and over the 17/18 summer the biggest I got there was 37cm and I had only heard rumours of 40s at this stage but can't recall ever seeing proof. Which makes me think that those initial werribee fish spread out over the bay rather than those 40s coming from the ones stocked above patto and in mordi in dec 16/jan 2017. The fish from watersports definitely ended up down in patto, can't remember exactly when but I remember seeing massive schools of micro eps in the lights at patto boat ramp smashing up tiny bait. I've also found perch in good numbers in small systems that weren't directly stocked.
On the nong there was fish stocked lower down at brimbank park and avondale heights but I think even fished stocked up at bulla could make their way down to the estuary if they wanted too. https://vfa.vic.gov.au/recreational-...e-fish-revival |

We caught a few and they were high 30's to low 40's. Maybe only the big ones were caught because of the big plastics used...?

Nothing was really working today. It been getting tougher and tougher - Even collected some worms from the car park just to see if the fish were still there - with in seconds of the worms hitting the bottom - bang - they were all over it
But they didnt want my 2 inch drop shotted, minnows. So I figured I might try something that just flails around on the spot like a worm on a hook. “wacky rigging a creature” was chosen after they stole my 8cm plastic worm. I chose the fatter creature because they would have a harder time ripping it off. And bang. The lake lit up. Casting to the exact same spots I had tried for the last half hour. A small hole about 20m wide. They were taking it on the drop. Multiple hits per retrieve. But the action dried up after 5 fish and went back to tough as it’s been. I thought I’d cracked the winter code, again - after the first few casts but it was not to be I swear these reds only respect innovating and only for a short period of time before the technique stops working. I thought I had it sorted...Tides, barometer, fresh water levels and flow rates, water temp, which lure for time of day...etc.. I had kept a log of the conditions when fish were caught over about 4 years. Yep, all turned to crap eventually: I would see them on the sounder, but they had no interest at all in hooking up no matter what I put in front of them...even dropshotting, Wacky rigs and Carolina rigs. I still cant work the things out!

This one was from 2018 in the Nong. At the time i caught it I’m sure i was thunking they had been stocked a few years earlier but based on the video I don’t think it could have been part of an official stocking program?
